Rumours about Alexander Isak’s future at Newcastle United refuse to go away.

Despite the underwhelming summer transfer window, Newcastle United did manage to keep hold of their biggest and brightest stars – including Alexander Isak.

The 25-year-old went toe-to-toe with the best strikers in the world last season, scoring 25 goals across all competitions despite Newcastle’s struggles in the Premier League.

As a result, Isak was linked to Chelsea over the summer but Newcastle priced the Blues out of a move by putting a £180m price tag on Isak.

Arsenal also have an interest in Isak as they hunt for a new centre-forward, and it seems those transfer rumours will rumble on over 2025.

Arsenal chief is key to Alexander Isak interest

As reported by Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Arsenal are monitoring the situation around Isak as they weigh up a potential move for the Swedish star.

He also points out that Arsenal’s interest in Isak will “depend on who succeeds Edu”. Edu recently left his role as sporting director at Arsenal and the Gunners are now looking for a replacement.

Their decision on whether or not to pursue a deal for Isak will be decided by the new sporting director.

Newcastle will obviously want to keep hold of Isak but his ongoing contract situation has proved difficult.

Eddie Howe has laid down challenge to Alexander Isak

Isak, who joined Newcastle for £63m, has a contract with Newcastle until 2028 so there is no pressure for the Magpies to sell him below value.

After agreeing a long-term deal with Anthony Gordon, Newcastle wanted to offer Isak a new contract. However, both parties have so far struggled to come to a complete agreement.

Isak wants to be Newcastle’s top earner in order to sign a new deal, while it has also been suggested that Isak needs Newcastle to qualify for Europe.

Contract talks are expected to resume at the end of the season and Newcastle will know by then whether or not they have secured their return to Europe.

In the meantime, Eddie Howe has challenged Isak to become ‘one of the world’s best’ strikers to earn himself a bumper deal at St James’ Park.

It would be a fantastic start if Isak extends his incredible scoring record against West Ham on Monday evening.
