Arsenal’s stance on signing new striker amid latest Alexander Isak developments

Newcastle United star Alexander Isak has been in the news of late.

Undoubtedly a hugely gifted striker and already having proved himself as a brilliant signing for Newcastle despite his relatively short spell thus far, this season has been difficult for the Sweden international.

Isak has scored only once so far and looked way off the pace against Brighton last time out, though perhaps some slack should be afforded given a recent toe injury.

Still, that’s not what has created headlines of late.

Indeed, the striker’s agents are reportedly likely to try and secure a move away from St James’ Park next summer if Newcastle fail to qualify for the Champions League, which is currently looking likely.

Arsenal have long been linked with the 25-year-old and some fresh insight into their plans has emerged.

According to The Standard, the Gunners will be in the market for a new striker next summer and have been scouting Isak since his days at Real Sociedad.

While Isak’s current contract runs until the summer of 2028, that will obviously be of huge concern to those at Newcastle.

Newcastle are still confident Alexander Isak will sign a new contract

Naturally, the prospect of losing Isak – who has been hailed as a “generational” talent – is a worry. Replacing him looks an almost impossible task without the allure of Champions League nights on Tyneside.

Still, Newcastle are in what appears to be a reasonably strong position if Arsenal do come calling, considering the length of time left to run on the striker’s deal.

Furthermore, the club are reportedly confident that the former Sociedad star will put pen to paper on fresh terms at some point.

TBR Football insider Graeme Bailey told Geordie Boot Boys earlier this week: “From Newcastle’s point of view, they are still hopeful and confident that he will sign. I think they would like it done and dusted before January.”
