Newcastle United are closing in on a major deal, as Anthony Gordon prepares to sign a new contract at St James’ Park.

The 23-year-old is set to commit his future to Newcastle United, with negotiations between player and club advancing last week.

Anthony Gordon’s new contract will not include a release clause, which is a big positive. It will also see him commit his best years to the Magpies, with Gordon’s new deal set to run until 2030.

After an unsettling summer that nearly saw him join Liverpool, it is great to see that Gordon is on the brink of signing a new contract with Newcastle United. It is a statement of intent from the owners, who know they need to keep their best players at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United want to extend Alexander Isak’s contract after Anthony Gordon breakthrough

They are doing exactly that with Gordon, with iNews reporting that an announcement over his new deal is now believed to be imminent.

That is very exciting, but there will be no rest for Toon officials, who will soon move on to the next set of contract negotiations.

According to iNews, Newcastle are hoping to step up their efforts to agree a new deal with Alexander Isak once the Gordon contract is finalised.

They report that initial talks between the club and the 25-year-old have taken place, with Isak keen to continue his career at St James’ Park after becoming Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever in August 2022.

If Newcastle can agree a new deal with Isak then they will suddenly be in a very strong position with regards to retaining Eddie Howe’s best players. The likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton have signed new long-term deals, Gordon is set to do the same, and the hope is that Isak will be next.

Another Newcastle player in line for a new deal

Newcastle need to keep their best players, while they also need to preserve their squad.

And that is why iNews add that the club have a ‘clear desire’ to extend Sean Longstaff’s Newcastle United contract.

The academy graduate is in the final 12 months of his current deal, and it would be negligent to let him leave for nothing amid the limitations posed by profit and sustainability rules.

Longstaff is also a valuable squad player, and someone who Eddie Howe really likes.
