Welcome to the latest Newcastle United transfer news live blog as the Magpies look to sign players ahead of a new season that will bring the added burden of Champions League football.
After struggling to sign players in 2024 due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), Newcastle United could be set for a big summer. Indeed, Newcastle are now in a strong PSR position.
Excitingly, Newcastle could spend £150million this summer. Like last summer, Marc Guehi is a target for Newcastle again, with Eddie Howe keen to bolster his defensive options. Guehi was of interest last summer but remained at Crystal Palace.
Newcastle have also held positive talks with Bryan Mbeumo as they look to bring in a new forward. Joan Garcia has been linked with Newcastle, although it remains to be seen exactly who Howe moves for if he looks to add a new goalkeeper to the ranks.

Newcastle United fans slam Liam Delap decision
The news that Liam Delap is heading for Chelsea appears to have riled Toon supporters online.
Indeed, Newcastle fans think Delap has made a mistake in joining Chelsea, with the Blues having previously seen a number of big name strikers struggle to convince at the club.
It remains to be seen if the forward does something similar. One thing looks for certain, however, and that’s the fact Newcastle have lost out on Delap.

So it seems Liam Delap has made his choice. Chelsea appear to have won the race for the Ipswich striker.
Clearly, that’s a huge blow to Eddie Howe, who wanted the club to sign players quickly this summer.
Still, it could be good news for William Osula. The forward is likely to be Alexander Isak’s only back-up in the squad as things stand, with Callum Wilson set to depart.
With more games on the schedule next season, the Dane could be in line for more game time.

PIF backing Eddie Howe in the transfer market
Sporting director Paul Mitchell was not overly pleased with Newcastle’s transfer business when he arrived.
Indeed, Mitchell said Newcastle’s transfer plan was “not fit for purpose” last year, in comments that are understood to have upset figures at the club.
However, with Mitchell set to leave, Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie added some interesting insight.
He claimed that owners PIF are fully backing Howe and the recruitment staff, having seen them enjoy success.

There have been a number of claims from Spain suggesting Joan Garcia could move to Newcastle United.
While that hasn’t been relayed by many perhaps more reputable sources just yet, Mark Douglas of iNews has suggested the interest “seems legit” when writing on social media platform X.
A move for the Espanyol goalkeeper could be one to watch this summer!
[Link]Newcastle United now told Liam Delap decision
The Liam Delap transfer saga now appears to be coming to a close for Newcastle United.
Sadly, it seems the Ipswich striker will be joining Chelsea for £30million instead.
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Newcastle have now been told they have missed out on the services of the striker.
[Link]Huge Newcastle United transfer budget explained
It will be fascinating to see what kind of spending power Newcastle United have in the transfer market this summer.
Having failed to sign any players who improved their squad in 2024, supporters will no doubt be desperate to see the club strengthen this time around.
Newcastle could reportedly feasibly spend £250million this summer, with their PSR position having improved. They could spend £150million and still have £100million worth of ‘PSR headroom’ left over.
That’s not to say they will, of course, but it sounds positive heading into the window…

Newcastle United fans slam Paul Mitchell after strange transfer claim
Outgoing Newcastle United sporting director Paul Mitchell has split opinion amongst the fanbase.
Mitchell is set to leave Newcastle at the end of June, having only arrived in 2024.
Interestingly, Mitchell reportedly thinks Newcastle paid too much money for Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall.
It’s fair to say that Newcastle fans are unhappy with Mitchell for his view on Livramento and Hall.

Newcastle United exit confirmed
A lot of the focus this summer will be on the players Newcastle United bring into the club.
Still, the end of the season means players will leave, too.
There could perhaps be more established names to depart over the coming weeks and months but James Huntley has confirmed he’s leaving Newcastle.
The 21-year-old was part of the Newcastle squad who beat Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League in October 2023 but joined Spennymoor Town in the National League North earlier this year and has now confirmed his departure.

Newcastle United eye move for Jonathan Rowe
TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has confirmed Newcastle United are keen on Marseille forward Jonathan Rowe.
Speaking to TBR Football, he revealed that Eddie Howe is interested in the Marseille forward.
The winger was reportedly of interest while at Norwich and prior to his move to the French giants in 2024.
The 22-year-old scored three goals while registering three assists in 28 Ligue 1 games.
[Link]Italian press make strange claim about Sandro Tonali at Newcastle United
According to TuttoJuve, Juventus are hoping to get a chance to sign Sandro Tonali this summer.
They suggest Newcastle are looking to sign Rodryo of Real Madrid, Jon Aramburu of Real Sociedad and Barcelona’s Ferran Torres this summer.
Rodryo feels a particularly unlikely target, given the cost implications. The Brazilian would not come cheaply even despite the fact he’s been touted for an exit.
The report then adds that, once Newcastle have spent big money, Juventus hope they sell Tonali if either Douglas Luiz or Dusan Vlahovic are offered in part-exchange…
Luckily for Newcastle fans, that feels very speculative to say the least!

Liam Delap set to reject Newcastle United
While Eddie Howe wants Newcastle to sign players quickly, it seems the club have been snubbed in their attempts to land a big-name target.
Indeed, according to The Northern Echo, Liam Delap is set to opt for a move to Chelsea.
Newcastle have held talks with Delap but the fact he’s more likely to get first-team football at Chelsea has proved a major factor.
Sadly for Newcastle, one of their early targets now appears to be going elsewhere.

Man City join race for Newcastle United target Rayan Cherki
Newcastle have been linked with a move for Lyon’s Rayan Cherki.
Newcastle reportedly considered signing Cherki in the January transfer window but at Lyon he remained.
Now, the interest in the 21-year-old could go into overdrive this summer.
Cherki is expected to leave Lyon and reports from The Daily Telegraph have claimed Manchester City have joined the race to sign him.

Joan Garcia linked with Newcastle United
Newcastle want to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, although it remains to be seen who actually arrives.
Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia has been linked with Newcastle and fresh reports from Spain suggest he’s close to making a decision.
According to Spanish journalist Quique Iglesias while speaking to Spanish outlet COPE, the custodian may not be heading to Barcelona after all…

Newcastle United hold positive Bryan Mbeumo talks
Bryan Mbeumo is also of interest to Newcastle this summer.
Geordie Boot Boys understands Newcastle have held positive talks with Mbeumo’s agents ahead of a potential move from Brentford.
Brentford reportedly value Mbeumo at around £54million, which looks a real bargain this summer.
The forward scored 20 Premier League goals during the 2024/25 campaign, with only Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak and Mohamed Salah scoring more.

Newcastle United expected to sign Marc Guehi
Geordie Boot Boys understands agents close to Marc Guehi expect the defender to join Newcastle United this summer.
Agents think Guehi will sign for Newcastle despite links with the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Tottenham.
The England international will be out of contract next summer and Crystal Palace expect Guehi to leave, although there have been claims he could see out the rest of his deal to secure a lucrative move away next year.
