A longstanding Newcastle United player has confirmed he is leaving the club after 14 years on Tyneside.

The Magpies are preparing for a busy summer, despite the announcement that Paul Mitchell is leaving the club after less than a year in his role as sporting director.

Eddie Howe will take more control of transfers due to Mitchell’s departure, and will need to manage who is leaving the club as much as who will be joining.

Newcastle United are set to welcome new signings, but are also preparing for the departures of several out-of-favour stars, including Callum Wilson.

The 33-year-old is out of contract in the summer, but Howe has handed Wilson a lifeline at Newcastle by offering him an incentive-based deal.

There has been no announcement on whether Wilson will be staying on Tyneside for another year, but another player has announced that he will leave the club this summer after 14 years.

James Huntley confirms Newcastle United exit

Newcastle youngster James Huntley will have some very fond memories of his time at the club, having signed as a seven-year-old in 2011.

The now 21-year-old was part of Howe’s Champions League squad that travelled to France to play PSG last season, and was named on the bench for the game alongside fellow youngster Michael Ndiweni.

However, Huntley’s dream of making his Newcastle debut is now over as he has confirmed on social media that he is leaving the club at the end of the season.

A post on Instagram read: “After 14 years at my boyhood club it’s now time to move on and say goodbye. From being a 7-year old boy to the man I am today, I will forever be grateful for everything this club has given me. I would like to thank everyone that has helped me throughout my career so far. I’ve got memories and experiences that will stick with me for a lifetime. It’s now time for me to move on to the next step of my journey. Thank you for everything @nufc forever my club.”

The post was met with comments from players like Isaac Hayden, Alfie Harrison, Mark Gillespie and former Newcastle ace Paul Dummett, who was released by the club last season.

Huntley spent the latter stages of the season away from Newcastle, having joined Spennymoor Town on loan in the January transfer window.

Forgotten Newcastle United man to leave this summer

Wilson has admitted he is frustrated with his minutes at Newcastle, having become the second choice to Alexander Isak last season.

With Newcastle looking to sign a striker this summer, Wilson will likely fall even further down the pecking order for the 2025/26 campaign.

However, Wilson is not the only player set to leave the club on a free transfer this summer. There are several players who are out of contract including forgotten Newcastle man Jamal Lewis, who has not played competitively for Howe since the 2022/23 season.

Lewis confirmed he will never play for Newcastle again, having been forced to return from his loan at Brazilian clubs Sao Paulo in January after picking up an ankle injury.

The 27-year-old could be leaving alongside John Ruddy and Mark Gillespie, as well as Wilson.
