Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier has been in the headlines of late.

After reportedly agreeing a deal to leave Newcastle for Bayern Munich in January, it seems an exit could now be on the cards for the England international.

Clubs in Saudi Arabia are said to be keen on Trippier and those at St James’ Park reportedly won’t stand in his way should he look to pursue a new challenge.

While few would doubt the defender has been a remarkable signing for the club, he did struggle at times during the second half of last season.

With Tino Livramento looking to build on an impressive first season on Tyneside too, the timing does feel right, particularly as the veteran is out of contract next summer anyway.

Still, perhaps an exit is not quite as imminent as it may seem.

On Friday, an image of Trippier checking in at Newcastle Airport emerged on social media.

Still, according to The Chronicle, there is not too much to read into.

The 33-year-old was reportedly never set to be involved in Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Hull City, having been handed an extended break after reaching the Euro 2024 final with England.

They also add that no deal is yet close and that sources suggest he is merely heading away on a holiday.

Why Newcastle are willing to sell Kieran Trippier this summer

Newcastle rejected bids from Bayern in January but their stance on keeping Trippier has changed for one reason.

And that reason is Livramento.

Indeed, there have been claims that the club would be willing to create space on the wage bill by selling Trippier, knowing Livramento is ready to take his place in the starting lineup on a consistent basis.
