One of Newcastle United’s key players is ‘weighing up his options’ ahead of a move away from St James’ Park.
The Magpies have already said goodbye to Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh this summer, with Eddie Howe disappointed to see both players leave. The latter has already made an impression away from Newcastle, with Minteh scoring on his first Brighton appearance.
Their departures were hard to take, as they were enforced due to Newcastle’s PSR situation. The Magpies desperately needed to raise some cash, otherwise a points deduction was coming their way. PIF did not want a points deduction, which meant Newcastle had to sell two of their brightest stars.
More departures expected at Newcastle United
Those sales were vital, as Newcastle were in a race against time to bring in around £70million to comply with PSR.
There is now less urgency at St James’ Park, but there could still be major departures.

The biggest player who is on course to leave Newcastle United is Kieran Trippier. The 33-year-old is in the final year of his Toon contract, and it has been reported that Newcastle are now much keener to sell Trippier.
That is in contrast to January, when Bayern Munich tried to snap up the £12million defender.
The latest on Kieran Trippier’s future
Toon officials turned down all of Bayern’s advances, but they will no longer stand in Trippier’s way as he ponders his next move.
That is the view of HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey, who has spoke to Geordie Boot Boys about Trippier’s Newcastle United future.
“Newcastle are not going to stand in Trippier’s way,” he said.
“He is weighing up his options. Galatasaray have shown an interest, while Bayern Munich are still very keen.
“The expectation by the end of August is that Trippier will be gone from Newcastle United. It’s hard to see where yet – it could be Saudi Arabia, it could be Turkey. I imagine he would rather go to Bayern.”
It will likely be the last big move of Trippier’s career
A move away from Newcastle United beckons for Trippier, but it remains to be seen where he will go.
Bailey has suggested that Bayern could be his preferred destination, which is understandable given their stature and the fact it would allow him to play alongside Harry Kane.
But moves to Saudi Arabia or Turkey could be more financially appealing, with Trippier a target for Al-Qadsiah as well as Galatasaray.
It is a big decision for Trippier, who is weighing up his options ahead of what will likely be the last big move of his career. The defender still has a lot to offer, but may struggle to get another move after this one given the fact he is already 33.
Wherever he goes, Trippier will receive the best wishes of Toon fans, who are eternally indebted to the England international.
