Kieran Trippier’s Newcastle United career could be coming to an end very soon.

The 33-year-old is yet to return to training after Euro 2024, and could be on his way out of Newcastle United very soon.

The Magpies’ recruitment team are currently weighing up who they should sell and who they should keep, and it has been reported that Kieran Trippier is very likely to leave Newcastle this summer.

This comes after two-and-a-half years on Tyneside, with Trippier the first player to arrive at St James’ Park following the PIF takeover in October 2021.

During their first transfer window, Trippier was brought in from Atletico Madrid for £12million. It was an extremely sensible signing, and a statement. Newcastle were going to be big movers in the transfer market, but they were going to be measured in their approach. Signing Trippier was very much a warning to the rest of the football world, and he proved to be an outstanding addition.

The right-back has been exceptional on and off the pitch for Newcastle, regularly wearing the captain’s armband in the absence of Jamaal Lascelles. He has been a leader on the pitch, and someone who Eddie Howe has been able to trust since day one.

But it now looks like Howe and Trippier are going to part ways, with the latter on course to leave.

Trippier is set to be sold, and the Northern Echo have provided details on why Newcastle are suddenly willing to let him go, just months after they fought to stop him signing for Bayern Munich.

According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle officials are now interested in selling Trippier due to his inconsistent form last season and the emphatic rise of Tino Livramento.

They also add that Trippier is one of Newcastle’s highest earners, so getting him off the books would have a financial benefit. The England international is now in the final year of his Toon contract, and will become a free agent in 2025 if he is not sold this summer.

Newcastle’s plan is happening sooner than expected

When Newcastle signed Trippier in 2022, he was never going to be a long-term addition.

He was brought in at the age of 31 to help stabilise the club and lay the foundations for the future.

It was well documented that the Magpies would need to replace Trippier in a few years, and that is why the club invested so much money in Tino Livramento last year. It was a transfer saga that rumbled on, but Newcastle eventually got Livramento for £32million.

He arrived as Trippier’s future replacement, but quickly proved that it would not take him long to reach the required standard.

The 21-year-old was great during his first season, while Livramento has vowed to get even better. All the while, you could argue that Trippier is on the decline.

It has all happened sooner than anticipated, and that is mainly down to Livramento and his ability. He is already good enough to take Trippier’s place, and it looks like he will now do exactly that.
