Newcastle United are eager to keep ahold of Alexander Isak, but it won’t be easy.
At 25 years old, Alexander Isak is just about the hit the peak of his career, Eddie Howe wants to make sure that he plays those prime years on Tyneside.
Isak has several clubs keen for his signature but sporting director Paul Mitchell is adamant that Newcastle United will keep him here for another year at least. Newcastle are planning contract talks with Isak at the end of the season when their finishing position is much clearer.
The belief is that Newcastle will not sell Isak, even if they do not qualify for the Champions League which the Swede is desperate to play in. Reports have claimed that Liverpool are interested in Isak and are even willing to let striker Darwin Nunez go the other way to get their man.
Even with the added incentive of a player coming the other way, Newcastle still demand a lucrative fee for Isak, one that would break the British transfer record.
With the Reds eager to bolster their attacking lineup with Mohamed Salah set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, recent words from a journalist have now revealed exactly what they are willing to do to force a deal through.

Liverpool willing to break the trend to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle
Liverpool are flying high in the Premier League, 13 points clear at the top of the table and heading for another title. Newcastle will take on Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final later in March, with the hope that they will win their first trophy since 1969 at Wembley Stadium. Fans’ hopes took a big knock following Newcastle’s FA Cup loss to Brighton, however, when Anthony Gordon was sent off, meaning he will miss the final.
Shortly after, Isak was taken off after he went down through injury. Isak missed Newcastle’s loss to Liverpool last Wednesday but is still expected to be ok for the cup final.
According to Sky Sports Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Liverpool have already been in contact with Isak’s ‘personal entourage’, stating that they are counting on their image and reputation to convince Isak that the move to Merseyside is the right one.
Arne Slot’s side will make a proposal for a deal, with Tavolieri claiming that Liverpool are ready to break the norms in regard to how they recruit to sign Isak.
Earlier reports have suggested that Newcastle want more than £120m for Isak, who Liverpool sees as a replacement for Salah in terms of his footballing prowess and marketability.
Alexander Isak compared to Mohamed Salah this season
Both players have been in exceptional form this campaign, showing their world-class qualities in the Premier League and for Salah, in Europe as well.
While Isak is wanted to replace Salah, Liverpool would still need to sign another winger given that Isak is an out-and-out striker who prefers to drift into the channels rather than stick to them.
Newcastle would have a hefty transfer budget to spend if they sold Isak, but his age and performances over the last season-and-a-half means he is much better suited staying on Tyneside.

Newcastle are still in the hunt for European football, including the Champions League. The Premier League table is so tight that several teams could still finish in the top four.
A boost for the Magpies is that because of Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United’s performances in Europe, there is likely to be an extra Champions League spot available to the team that finishes in fifth.
Howe’s side will automatically enter into the Europa League if they win the Carabao Cup, giving them more impetus to win at Wembley Stadium, no matter the setbacks.
