Alexander Isak swap dismissed out of hand as Newcastle United offered ‘world class’ attacker

It’s been painfully frustrating reading about Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak being linked with moves away from the club.

Isak has been a success from pretty much the moment he first arrived at Newcastle United but has gone up a gear this season.

While it’s only natural that other clubs would be interested, it sometimes feels as if sections of the media are simply waiting for him to join Arsenal.

Arsenal are interested in Isak but, frankly, so what? He’s under contract until the summer of 2028 and could still win a trophy while qualifying for the Champions League at St James’ Park.

There would appear to be little reason to leave the club he’s already at. Even if he were to push to go – and there is nothing to suggest that will happen – Newcastle are in a very strong bargaining position anyway.

Liverpool have also been linked with Isak and a development emerged on Saturday.

Newcastle set to be offered Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle are set to be one of a number of clubs likely to be offered a move for Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez.

The Uruguay international has failed to wholly convince since joining the Reds from Benfica in the summer of 2022, scoring 39 times while registering 22 assists in 132 games.

Newcastle scouted Nunez before he joined Liverpool and the striker – who was recently criticised by manager Arne Slot – could reportedly be available for around £60million.

Interestingly, the report also adds that wild links suggesting Nunez could be involved in some kind of swap deal for Isak have been dismissed out of hand.

Alexander Isak is absolutely levels above Darwin Nunez

It’s not surprising to read that Newcastle would laugh off suggestions about swapping Isak for Nunez.

Isak has been hailed as “world class” and that’s’ a moniker even the most ardent Liverpool fan would struggle to put on Nunez.

Indeed, not only does the Swede boast more goals and assists than Nunez both this season and last, they do not even seem on the same level in general play.

As is shown above, Isak beats Nunez in almost every available attacking metric this season alone.

Newcastle fans, of course, do not need telling that Isak is a better player than Nunez.

Thankfully, even the very slight idea the two could ever be involved in the same deal looks incredibly remote – at best.
