Newcastle United have so far been frustrated in their attempts to sign Marc Guehi.
While there has been talk of Newcastle feeling confident about doing a deal with Crystal Palace, they have now seen four offers rejected as sporting director Paul Mitchell considers potential alternatives.
Guehi is said to be open to the idea of a move to St James’ Park but the club have so far been unable to put a package together that would tempt Palace into selling.
Their chairman Steve Parish, after all, confirmed the Eagles were chasing “superstar money” for the England defender and Newcastle have not yet been able to reach that valuation.
While it remains unclear as to whether or not Newcastle will walk away from talks, more insight from behind the scenes has now emerged.
Crystal Palace tell Newcastle Marc Guehi transfer latest
According to GIVEMESPORT, Newcastle were astonished when seeing their fourth offer snubbed by the Selhurst Park club.

In fact, those at Palace are said to have told decision-makers on Tyneside that they will simply not entertain selling Guehi in the final week of the transfer window, placing something of a deadline on the transfer talks.
Why Newcastle are reluctant to pay huge money for Marc Guehi
Not signing the player Newcastle have gone so big on at this stage of the window would not only be slightly embarrassing but would leave little time to source an alternative.
The sticking point is, obviously, the price.
Newcastle are reportedly of the belief that Palace’s asking price of around £65-£70million is just too high for a player to have entered the final two years of his contract.
There’s certainly logic in that but it does raise a question as to why they’re pushing so hard with fees only slightly below that valuation, if they have no intention of meeting it anyway.
