Newcastle United continue to pursue the signing of Marc Guehi.
The England international is reportedly keen to join Newcastle but it is believed his agents have now left it up to the Magpies and Crystal Palace to thrash out a deal.
Eddie Howe admitted the defence needed work at the end of last season and even after the signing of Lloyd Kelly, Guehi has emerged as a leading target.
While there is believed to be a confidence that a deal can yet be reached, Newcastle are said to have seen an offer snubbed by the Selhurst Park outfit.
Now, more insight has emerged.
How Newcastle currently feel about Marc Guehi’s price tag
According to the Northern Echo, Palace are chasing a fee of £65million for the 24-year-old, who has previously spoken of his admiration for St James’ Park.

Still, the report adds that Newcastle’s recruitment team, led by sporting director Paul Mitchell, feel that is just too high for a player to have entered the final two years of his contract.
It, however, is hoped that further talks will see the two clubs reach a compromise.
Marc Guehi would be a statement signing for Newcastle
Newcastle’s defending left an awful lot to be desired last season.
Though the signing of a new right-winger would be a positive, a club not playing Champions League football actually landing one of England’s best defenders at Euro 2024 would be a statement of intent.
In fact, the former Chelsea youngster has been hailed as a “top four player” by pundit Danny Murphy, such is the high regard in which Guehi is held across footballing circles.
To be in a position where they are confident about landing a talent of such stature is a major positive in what has been a difficult summer transfer window.
Hopefully, Guehi will soon be clad in black and white.
