Newcastle United are waiting for the green light from Crystal Palace owner Steve Parish to sign Marc Guehi.

However, that is yet to happen, as the Magpies await the response to their latest bid for Marc Guehi.

Newcastle made a third bid for Guehi over the weekend, after their first two approaches were rejected by Crystal Palace.

There has been confidence that Newcastle will sign Guehi, but a deal is not going to be done until the Magpies propose a deal that suits Palace. They are in control of the situation, with Palace in no rush to sell Guehi.

It has been reported that Guehi wants to join Newcastle, but there have been no suggestions that he is pushing for the move. Instead, Newcastle and Palace have been negotiating without reaching an agreement.

Steve Parish speaks about Marc Guehi’s Crystal Palace future

Crystal Palace want to receive as much money as possible, while Newcastle are looking to save as much as possible. The back and forth continues, but it is Palace that are in control of Guehi’s future.

They obviously want to keep the 24-year-old, but will not stand in his way if a suitable offer comes in. That has always felt like their approach throughout these negotiations, and now their owner Steve Parish has told Newcastle exactly what they must do if they want take Guehi to Tyneside.

Parish has spoke to Sky Sports News about Guehi’s future, and has admitted that it will take ‘superstar money’ for Palace to agree to sell the England international.

“Nobody has got to the valuation yet,” he said.

“If you want a superstar player you need to pay superstar money.

“This is a player we love a lot. If we start the season with him, we’ll be a better team, no doubt. We are nowhere near the point where we have to make a decision. We love having him and would love to keep him.

“If someone else wants to have him they need to make it really difficult for us. At the moment, that’s not the situation we’re in.

“Marc is as decent a human being and footballer as you could ever hope to meet. We all know the situation. Marc is absolutely loyal to Crystal Palace. Marc wants to progress his career, of course he does. If the right opportunity is there and it’s right for us then I think it’s something he might be interested in. But he’s not putting any pressure on the club whatsoever.”

The door is open for Newcastle to sign Guehi

It is becoming a game of cat and mouse. Newcastle are looking at alternatives – presumably in the hope that it will convince Palace to not let this deal slip away.

Now the Palace chairman has laid down the gauntlet in the media, telling Newcastle clear as day that they simply have not offered enough money as of yet.

And he has also made it very clear that there is a deal to be done. Parish has not said that Guehi is going nowhere, nor has he described the defender as untouchable.

Instead, Parish has admitted that it will take a very big offer for them to sell Guehi. He appears to be inviting such an offer, as Newcastle continue to lead what seems to be a one horse race.

Newcastle have been alone in the pursuit of Guehi, with no other clubs challenging them for the centre-back’s signature. That helps the Magpies, but it is meaningless if they do not make an offer that Palace feel is suitable.

The more this drags on, the more worried fans will be that Guehi is not on his way to St James’ Park. But Parish has opened the door for Newcastle United, and it is up to Paul Mitchell and co to burst through it with enough cash to appease the Palace owner.
