The three striker names Newcastle United have discussed internally

Newcastle United have three striker targets on their radar if an opportunity arises to bring in a new signing this month.

Due to PSR issues, it seems Newcastle United are prepared to end the January transfer window without completing any major signings.

Sporting director Paul Mitchell has been focused on raising cash through sales and Newcastle will receive £10m for Miguel Almiron having agreed a deal with MLS side Atlanta United.

Newcastle do have money to spend this month, but any major incomings mean that the club may have to sell before the PSR deadline in June.

The recruitment team have worked towards signings but Newcastle missed out on Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis which has left club insiders disappointed.

There are also other names on Newcastle’s transfer shortlist in case an opportunity arises, including three strikers.

Newcastle United have internally discussed three striker targets

With Callum Wilson in the final year of his contract, Newcastle United know a new striker will be needed sooner rather than later.

The good news is that Alexander Isak wants to stay at Newcastle with a new contract waiting for him at the end of the season. But Eddie Howe will need other options to compete with the Swedish star up front.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle have “internally discussed” three strikers – Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Jonathan David.

Newcastle sent scouts to watch David recently as they continue to monitor the Canadian forward. David’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, making him the cheapest option out of the three.

Sesko was a summer target for Newcastle, but the Magpies have continued to keep tabs on him ahead of a potential move in 2025. Sesko has a release clause of around £40m.

As for Cunha, the Wolves star has become hot property in the Premier League. Unfortunately, reports suggest Cunha would prefer a move to Arsenal. On the bright side, hopefully it puts a stop to the ludicrous Isak links.

Star striker could arrive at Newcastle in summer window

While Newcastle are putting in the ground work to scout their three striker targets, a deal in the summer seems far more likely.

PIF plan to save the Almiron cash until the summer, when Newcastle will be under much less financial pressure.

It could end up being a big summer for Newcastle, who will hopefully have the lure of European football to attract world-class stars.

Newcastle will also receive a £73m PSR boost when their losses from the 21/22 season drop out of the equation.

So while January has been a frustrating month with very little movement, the summer of 2025 is one fans can look forward to.
