Newcastle United are set to complete their first major sale of the month with Miguel Almiron headed for the exit door.
The narrative around Newcastle United’s January transfer window has been that the club must sell to buy in order to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Last month, Eddie Howe warned January would be quiet for Newcastle with the club prepared to go without any new additions and wait for the summer.
But sporting director Paul Mitchell has been working towards getting some sales over the line, with Martin Dubravka coming within hours of an exit to the Saudi Pro League before the club completed a U-turn and decided to keep him.
Miguel Almiron is now set to leave with a return to MLS side Atlanta on the cards. Almiron appeared to say goodbye to fans after the latest 3-1 win over Southampton.

How much are Newcastle earning from Miguel Almiron sale?
Raising cash through sales this month will have a big impact on the budget available to Eddie Howe and Co. and Newcastle are set for a healthy cash injection from Miguel Almiron’s move to America.
According to reports, Newcastle will earn £11m from Almiron’s sale which is broken down into a guaranteed £8m plus £3m in add-ons.
Newcastle fans were stunned by Almiron’s fee with supporters praising Mitchell for the business done so far. The deal is not yet finalised but it is imminent.
With Almiron leaving, Newcastle’s forward department is worryingly thin and a right winger was Newcastle’s top priority this month.
Whether the club invests in a replacement now or in the summer, though, is yet to be seen.
What PIF plan to do with £11m Miguel Almiron fee
The money earned from Almiron’s sale should relax any PSR concerns and free up space for a replacement. Almiron’s £60,000 per week wages are also off the club books.
However, according to The Telegraph, Newcastle still don’t expect to sign anyone this month as they wish to be in a stronger position in the summer.
Newcastle will receive a £73m PSR boost in the summer which will allow the Magpies to go and pursue their top targets, rather than signing a cheaper option this month.

Plus, Newcastle are on track to qualify for the Champions League on current form. A return to Europe would make negotiating with world-class players much easier.
While Almiron’s exit does dent the squad depth, Jacob Murphy has been in fine form off the right wing and Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes and Joe Willock could also play there if needed.
