Newcastle United are finally set to do some major business in the January transfer window.

It has been a quiet month at St James’ Park, with Newcastle United focussing their efforts on loan exits. Sadly, deals like that will not improve the Magpies’ PSR position.

However, Eddie Howe is suddenly set to receive a financial boost, as Newcastle United and Miguel Almiron prepare to go their separate ways.

Throughout January, there has been constant speculation regarding the Paraguayan’s future on Tyneside.

A move away has felt extremely likely, with Eddie Howe deciding to sell Almiron.

That is exactly what Newcastle are doing, with Almiron heading back to Atlanta United.

Toon fans have just been waiting for the deal to be finalised. There was a delay, which resulted in Miggy featuring in Newcastle’s win over Southampton.

The 30-year-old got the chance to say goodbye, as the Newcastle fans serenaded Almiron after the full-time whistle.

Fabrizio Romano’s Miguel Almiron update

That now looks certain to be his last ever Newcastle United appearance, as Fabrizio Romano has provided a fresh update on the winger’s departure.

He wrote on X: “Miguel Almiron leaves Newcastle to join Atlanta United, confirmed and here we go! Verbal agreement sealed between all parties, also player side on four year and half contract. Fee around $12m for Almiron set to travel for medical tests.”

What is next for Newcastle United in the January transfer window

With the Almiron deal set to be concluded, Newcastle United can move on to their next bit of business.

That will likely mean more outgoings, as it does not look like Howe will be able to strengthen his squad this month.

Newcastle do not expect to sign anyone, even with the money they are about to receive for Almiron.

The main player whose future remains uncertain is Lloyd Kelly. He has been linked with a move to Juventus, with Kelly unhappy about his playing time at Newcastle.

However, it would come as a shock if Howe sanctioned his exit.

Elsewhere, there could be more loan exits. Garang Kuol is a candidate to depart, while Jamie Miley is a target for Hartlepool United.
