Once again, it was Alexander Isak who made headlines after he scored twice at St Mary’s Stadium to help Newcastle overturn an early deficit.
Arsenal want to sign Isak and have been repeatedly linked with a summer move for the Swedish star. However, Isak’s contract is valid until 2028 and Newcastle are desperate to keep hold of him.
His future will largely be decided by whether Isak wants to stay at St James’ Park or not, and he has now told his teammates which way he is leaning.

Alexander Isak tells Newcastle teammates about his future
After talks over a new deal stalled earlier this season, Isak has set new contract demands that Newcastle must meet. European qualification is key to keeping him on Tyneside.
Newcastle have placed a £150m asking price for Isak, but his value will dwindle if he allows his deal to run down.
However, according to The Telegraph, Isak has privately told his Newcastle teammates that he is not thinking about leaving.
Sources claim that Isak has not been distracted by the transfer speculation despite heavy interest from Arsenal. The Gunners will be forced to look elsewhere after being priced out of a move.
Newcastle’s focus has now switched to rewarding Isak’s world-class performances with a new deal that puts an end to the question marks around his future.
Newcastle United will offer Alexander Isak new contract
The same Telegraph report claims that Newcastle are preparing to reward Isak with a new long-term deal in the summer.
Isak currently earns £120,000 per week at Newcastle, but a new deal will likely make him the club’s best-paid player and it is extremely hard to argue that he doesn’t deserve it.

Securing Champions League qualification will certainly help contract talks go smoothly with Isak eager to play in the prestigious European competition. Newcastle are currently fifth in the Premier League table which should be enough to return to the Champions League in 2025/26.

Newcastle plan to give Isak the No.9 shirt as part of a new contract, with Callum Wilson’s future at the club still in doubt.
