Southampton all of a sudden make it possible for Newcastle United to sign Tyler Dibling

Newcastle United are exploring a summer move for Southampton winger Tyler Dibling.

Although he has only scored two Premier League goals this season, the 19-year-old has been a standout player for a Southampton side that have already resigned themselves to relegation back to the Championship.

Tyler Dibling was linked to Newcastle United during the January transfer window while Miguel Almiron’s immediate future was in doubt. Almiron moved to Atlanta United but the Magpies failed to find a replacement, with PSR continuing to be a problem.

However, Paul Mitchell is ready to spend for Newcastle this summer thanks to player departures and a lack of arrivals over the last 12 months. It is shaping up to be one of the club’s most important transfer windows as Eddie Howe looks to take Newcastle to the next level.

While the Magpies remain interested in the winger, Southampton want £100m for Dibling, a fee that Newcastle will not be willing to part with due to their plans on improving several positions in the starting XI.

While Mitchell continues to work on finalising Newcastle’s top targets, a new transfer report has shared how much Southampton could be willing to accept to let Dibling move elsewhere.

Tyler Dibling’s new price tag amid Newcastle United interest

The Magpies are not alone in their interest for the England youth international. Reports have suggested Tottenham could beat Newcastle to Dibling, with people ‘within football’ tipping the Saints star to move to North London rather than Tyneside.

Newcastle were poised to offer Matt Targett to Southampton in January in an attempt to land Dibling, but the move never materialised and both players remained their respective clubs.

While some clubs’ interest may have cooled off after the £100m valuation, a new report from TeamTalk could see them return to the table with the hope that they can strike a deal.

The report states that £60m could still be enough for Dibling this summer, although Southampton are reluctant to set their asking price as that in fear that interested parties may submit lowball offers.

Southampton’s £100m asking price means that if they are lowballed, they will still be getting a transfer fee that they will be pleased with. With the Saints set for relegation, they need as much money as possible to build a team ready to fight for promotion.

Newcastle United could take advantage of relegation-threatened clubs

As it stands, Southampton are set to go back down to the Championship alongside Leicester City and Ipswich Town.

While performances have not been up to scratch for the trio this season, there are still players who have shown their quality.

Newcastle have previously bought players from relegated clubs, with Nick Pope joining following Burnley’s drop in 2022. Howe and Mitchell could repeat a similar move this summer if the price is right.

Newcastle are big fans of Liam Delap, who has scored 11 Premier League goals for Ipswich this season. Reports suggest that Delap will cost Newcastle £40m this summer, a fee that they should be able to afford.

The Magpies are looking for a striker who can come in when required to take over from Alexander Isak next season. With Newcastle returning to Europe, the need for more depth in attack is there, and they believe Delap is the right person for the job.
