Newcastle United want to sign Southampton winger Tyler Dibling.

18-year-old Tyler Dibling has had a breakout season in the Premier League, despite Southampton’s woeful campaign. The Saints sit rock bottom of the League on six points and look poised to set a new record for the lowest points total in the league’s history.

Newcastle are linked with Dibling who they have admired for years. Newcastle tried to sign Dibling in 2022 when Dan Ashworth was the club’s sporting director, but he moved to Chelsea instead.

Things did not work out for him in the capital, however, and he returned to Southampton a year later. So far this season, Dibling has scored twice in his 19 league appearances and bagged a brace in their FA Cup Third Round win against Swansea.

His performances mean he is not short of attention – several clubs across Europe want to sign Dibling including RB Leipzig.

Any potential suitors may have been put off approaching the current transfer after Southampton slapped a £55m price tag on Dibling. Newcastle’s PSR situation means that a move is very unlikely.

Reports suggest that Newcastle could sign Dibling in the summer. It has now been revealed what the Magpies are willing to do to land their longstanding target.

Newcastle United could offer Matt Targett to Southampton

Defender Matt Targett has found it hard to get minutes under Howe this season. His position has been filled by Lewis Hall who has played exceptionally for most of the campaign.

The 29-year-old’s £100,000 per week contract is up at the end of next season, but reports suggest that Newcastle will not hand Targett a new deal after struggling with injuries.

Like Newcastle, Tottenham are big fans of Dibling. According to the Daily Express, Tottenham are prepared to set up a bizarre swap deal including 19-year-old midfielder Tyreese Hall for Dibling.

The Magpies are now prepared to do one better than that and offer a senior player for the 18-year-old. According to TeamTalk, Newcastle would be happy to let Targett go the other way if it helps them in their efforts to sign Dibling in the summer.

Targett began his football career at Southampton, spending 16 years at the club from academy level to first-team.

Southampton could bid for Targett before the transfer window closes, the defender is reportedly free to leave the club.

Newcastle United’s new transfer focus

As a relatively quiet transfer window comes to an end. Newcastle have already set their sights on getting deals done for the summer.

A deal for Dibling is more likely in the summer as Newcastle need a young right-winger to replace Miguel Almiron.

After completing moves for Kyle Fitzgerald and Vakhtang Salia, the Magpies are looking abroad once again for hidden gems.

Newcastle are in pre-contract talks with Antonio Cordero from Malaga, the 18-year-old has 10 La Liga 2 goal involvements this season.

Elsewhere, 18-year-old Baran Yildiz is close to joining Newcastle on a long-term deal from Genclerbirligi, a Turkish second-division side.
