Newcastle United are ‘anticipating’ Kieran Trippier will leave the club in the summer transfer window but have already eyed his replacement.
There are still nine massive fixtures in the Premier League to go for Newcastle United as they aim to qualify for the Champions League, but planning for the transfer window will already be underway.
Eddie Howe will be hoping to have big money to spend this summer after being restricted in recent windows due to PSR rules.
Improvements to the squad will have to be made in several positions if Newcastle are to challenge for the Premier League or go far in Europe’s top competition.
One such position is defence and, according to D Sports, the Magpies are ‘anticipating’ that Kieran Trippier will depart this summer.
The veteran right-back has seen an upturn in form recently and was sublime in the Carabao Cup final, but is now 34 and reaching the end of his fantastic career.
It’s also reported that Jon Aramburu is seen as the perfect replacement.

Newcastle ‘identify’ Aramburu as Trippier replacement
The D Sports report, via SportWitness, states that Newcastle are ‘in the picture’ to sign Real Sociedad’s Aramburu, who has made great waves in La Liga this season.
The 22-year-old has played 40 games and has become ‘one of the more coveted defenders in Europe.’
Newcastle aren’t alone in their interest in Aramburu, with Atletico Madrid and Inter both said to be keen on the Venezuelan.
However, it won’t be cheap for anyone to sign him as Aramburu recently extended his contract with Sociedad to 2030, with a £50m release clause.
Should Newcastle keep Kieran Trippier?
Newcastle do need to spend some big money this summer if they want to build upon their Carabao Cup triumph, with the defence especially looking old.
Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall are both young but Trippier, Dan Burn and Fabian Schar, who all start regularly, are well into their 30s.
That doesn’t matter when the quality remains high but it could drop at any moment, so younger alternatives need to be on hand for when that happens.
Trippier has proven with massive performances this year that he still has quality, as well as versatility, excellent leadership and experience, to offer.
For that reason, it would be no bad thing at all if he stayed at St. James’ Park for one more year but his future replacement should still be signed if possible.
