Newcastle United are keen to keep hold of their key players this summer, despite the need to make improvements to the starting XI.

The Magpies are expected to spend well this summer following three transfer windows with few arrivals for the first team.

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has been forced to compete with a weakened squad after young prospects Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh were sold last summer.

Things got even worse for Newcastle after Lloyd Kelly joined Juventus and Miguel Almiron was sold to Atlanta United after six years on Tyneside.

Exit links have persisted in 2025 as well, with Alexander Isak to Liverpool expected to be a big story this summer. It will take something ‘crazy’ for Newcastle to sell Isak. That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who believes the Magpies’ star striker will not leave the club.

While Isak’s possible move to Liverpool takes the headlines, another potential transfer saga is quietly brewing involving Newcastle and Manchester City.

Man City have lost their spark this season. Pep Guardiola’s side is currently fifth in the Premier League table, but can no longer defend their title due to Liverpool’s brilliant season.

Newcastle’s win against Manchester United on Sunday saw them overtake Man City in the standings and give them the advantage in the race for Champions League football.

A top four finish would give Newcastle a big reputation boost ahead of the summer transfer window, but they must be weary of losing player to their Premier League rivals.

Reports in February stated that Man City want to sign Tino Livramento this summer. The defender, who joined Newcastle for £32m in 2023, has been sensational this season, even showing his versatility by covering for Lewis Hall after he suffered a season-ending injury.

Guardiola has now made it clear what position he wants to improve this summer, it could spell bad news for the Magpies.

“We will need a new fullback in the summer,” Guardiola said in his post-match press conferenace after Man City’s 5-2 win against Crystal Palace.

“Obviously. Nico O’Reilly is helping, but he’s not a left-back”.

A left-back is the priority for Man City this summer, but with Livramento’s ability to play in that position, he is an ideal candidate for the move.

Will Tino Livramento leave Newcastle United for Man City?

At just 22 years old, Newcastle fans believe they have found the right replacement for Kieran Trippier and one that will be with the club for many years.

However, it could all come crashing down if Man City put in a good enough offer.

Newcastle are already looking at improving several positions this summer, they will be keen to ensure that right-back is not one of them.

While Man City are intrested, Geordie Boot Boys were told in February that Newcastle do not want to sell Livramento.

Furthermore, the England international is very happy on Tyneside and is not looking to leave the club this summer.

Livramento still has three years left on his existing deal, so the club are not in any immediate hurry to tie him down for the future.
