Big twist as Manchester City now want ‘incredible’ Newcastle United player but it’s not Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle United have spent a long time fending off transfer interest in Bruno Guimaraes from Manchester City.

The Premier League champions were heavily linked with Bruno Guimaraes last summer, at a time when the Newcastle United captain had a £100million release clause.

But Man City did not think Bruno was worth that much, opting against activating the clause.

Pep Guardiola continues to praise Bruno, but it is his Newcastle United teammate who is now attracting interest from Manchester City.

Manchester City eye Tino Livramento transfer

Manchester City want to sign a right-back when the summer transfer window opens, and that could lead them to Tyneside.

That is according to the Telegraph, who report that Manchester City are admirers of Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento.

The Telegraph state that Man City are also interested in Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso, after failing with a bid to sign him in January.

What Tino Livramento did against Manchester City on his first Newcastle United start

Manchester City have seen first hand how good Tino Livramento is in a Newcastle United shirt. After all, his first start for the Magpies came against Pep Guardiola’s side in September 2023.

Newcastle were drawn against Manchester City in the third round of the League Cup, with the two sides meeting at St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe rotated his side, handing Livramento his first Toon start after his £32million arrival from Southampton.

It was quite the baptism of fire for Livramento, who had arrived as cover for Kieran Trippier.

However, he quickly showed that he would be Trippier’s long-term replacement at St James’ Park.

Newcastle fans were impressed with Livramento, who kept the £100million Jack Grealish at bay with ease as the Magpies knocked Man City out of the Carabao Cup.

Alexander Isak said Livramento was ‘incredible’, as the St James’ Park crowd bellowed out cries of ‘Tino! Tino! Tino!’.

He quickly proved that he was going to be an outstanding investment, and that continues to be the case. That is why Manchester City want to sign him, as they set about replacing Kyle Walker – a player who has been widely recognised as the best right-back around.

That is a testament to Livramento, who has a contract until 2028. The hope will be that he remains at St James’ Park for the foreseeable future.
