Micah Richards’ high praise for Tino Livramento after Newcastle win
Tino Livramento has been a force to be reckoned with this season, cementing his place in the starting XI and even playing out of position after it was confirmed Lewis Hall is out for the season after picking up an ankle injury in February.
The 22-year-old was a key player in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup final win against Liverpool, putting in the cross for Alexander Isak’s goal at Wembley. Livramento is still riding the wave from the cup win, impressing in the Magpies’ last three games.
However, his efforts against Man United may be recognised as his best performance yet.
Richards was quick to heap praise on the defender during a recent episode of the Rest is Football. Speaking to Newcastle legend Alan Shearer, he said: “Talk to me about Tino Livramento – he is outstanding.
“After his injury problems, he has found his way. I know he prefers to play right-back, but at left-back coming in on his right foot, I just thought he was great again.”
Shearer completely agreed with Richards’ assessment, saying: “Yeah you’re right, playing left-back he’s aggressive and he’s really quick one v one. There’s not many that go past him. The way he went past Dalot for the Barnes’ goal, the second goal, the way he whipped that ball in was brilliant. He did something similar at Leicester as well.
“He’s in a really good place now as are a lot of Newcastle players.”
Livramento will be in line to start for Newcastle again when they take on Crystal Palace at St James’ Park on Wednesday. A win could see them move up to third, just four points off Arsenal in second.
Thomas Tuchel watched England stars shine for Newcastle United
The game at St James’ Park had a lot of eyeballs, David Ginola returned to his old stomping ground and immediately complimented the grass of all things, while he joined Shearer and former Newcastle and Man United player Nicky Butt to do punditry.
Amidst the chaos of the game was England boss Thomas Tuchel in the stands. The German picked three Newcastle players in his first Three Lions squad in March and may be forced to pick even more in June, given how well the Magpies’ English players have performed.
Barnes has been unstoppable since coming in for Anthony Gordon in March. The winger scored a brace against Man United to make it eight goals for the season.
Elsewhere, Jacob Murphy bagged an assist in a fairly muted performance in comparison to the win against Leicester.
Livramento and Dan Burn were picked by Tuchel in March and made a point to be chosen again in the win.
