Newcastle United have missed out on another player they were linked with in the transfer window.
After selling squad players and not making any signings, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has got it all to do if he wants to qualify for the Champions League.
Missing out on Europe’s top competition could have huge implications for who the club can hold onto next season. Alexander Isak wants Champions League football and believes Newcastle can achieve that for him. However, with Arsenal interested in Isak, their league position could easily make his head turn.
Newcastle remained fifth in the Premier League following the defeat to Fulham on Saturday, but they could drop down to sixth if Chelsea picks up a point against West Ham on Monday night.

Toon fans have seen multiple names linked with a move to Tyneside go elsewhere much to their frustration. At one point, Newcastle led the race for Abdukodir Khusanov before he joined Manchester City on a long-term deal.
Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund offered Newcastle Donyell Malen who ultimately joined Aston Villa.
With the transfer window coming to a close, Newcastle have now missed out on yet another player they were hoping to sign in the summer.
Brighton set to sign Stefanos Tzimas
Stefanos Tzimas has been so impressive in his loan spell at FC Nurnberg this season. The Greek forward has now officially earned a big move to England.
The 19-year-old has scored 10 goals in 17 2. Bundesliga games this campaign which has caused him to have many admirers.
Newcastle wanted Tzimas as he perfectly aligned with sporting director Paul Mitchell’s new transfer strategy.
Now, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Tzimas has completed a medical and signed a contract with Brighton – he will join the club in the summer.
Romano has confirmed the deal is worth £22m plus add-ons. It was reported that Tzimas was leaning towards the Brighton move after engaging in positive talks with Seagulls boss Fabian Hurzeler.
Newcastle were planning a summer move for Tzimas, but Brighton have gotten the edge over Paul Mitchell and beaten him to it.
Newcastle eyeing more young talents
Despite missing out on a young player that he thought very highly of, Mitchell will not be put off signing other young players.
Mitchell wants Newcastle to sign young players across Europe to help them avoid future PSR problems and find cheaper deals that will help the club in years to come.
Newcastle entered pre-contact talks with Antonio Cordero who plays for La Liga 2 side Malaga. The 18-year-old has played at under-19s level for Spain and scored four league goals this season.
The Magpies have also signed Kyle Fitzgerald from Galway United after he impressed Newcastle youth staff during an initial trial period.
Elsewhere, Newcastle should tie up Baran Yildiz’s signing from Turkish second-tier side Genclerbirligi very soon. The 18-year-old is expected to link up with Newcastle’s under-21s.
