Newcastle United have not made any first-team signings in the January transfer window.
There is no doubt that Newcastle United fans will be disappointed at the lack of arrivals in January.
Before the window began, the belief inside Newcastle was that Eddie Howe wanted a striker, winger and shot-stopper to help improve the club’s chances of playing in the Champions League next season.
Newcastle fans got a taste of Europe’s top competition last season, but their time was short-lived as they were knocked out in the group stages.
Although injuries played a big part in their elimination, the Magpies still picked up a historic win against PSG at St James’ Park.
With the January transfer window closing soon, Howe has confirmed that the club is not expected to do any more business after Miguel Almiron was sold to Atlanta United.
However, recent words from a journalist in Turkey suggest that Newcastle could sign another young star.

Newcastle United set to sign Baran Yildiz
Newcastle’s business for the first-team may be done, but as things stand there could be more arrivals for the academy.
On Friday, it was reported that Newcastle had entered pre-contract talks for Antonio Cordero from La Liga 2 side Malaga. The 18-year-old is ready for a new challenge after making his debut for the Spanish side in 2023.
Elsewhere, 17-year-old Georgian Vakhtang Salia will join Newcastle in August when he turns 18. The striker will play for Dinamo Tbilisi in the meantime.
According to Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, Newcastle has agreed a four-and-a-half-year deal with 18-year-old Baran Yildiz who plays for Turkish side Genclerbirligi.
Yildiz is yet to make his debut for the Turkish second-tier side but has been involved with the under-19s team this season, scoring seven goals in 27 games.
Newcastle have reportedly been locked in talks with the club for the past few days.
The Magpies may struggle to obtain a work permit for the young forward – there is a chance he could be loaned back to Genclerbirligi after joining.
Baran Yildiz fits Paul Mitchell’s transfer strategy
After a shaky start to his time at the club, sporting director Paul Mitchell now looks as if he has settled in and has a firm grasp on proceedings.
Newcastle will now target young players across Europe in an attempt to beat PSR and find hidden gems at a much lower price.
Mitchell dubbed Newcastle’s previous transfer approach as “not fit for purpose” after the club were forced to sell key assets to Premier League rivals.
Like Salia and Cordero, Yildiz is yet another player who fits the bill in terms of how Mitchell wants to recruit.
While no transfer fee has been reported, the 18-year-old will surely cost much less than it would to buy a player from England.
