Newcastle United fought off interest in Alexander Isak from Premier League giants over the summer transfer window.

It was a disappointing summer for Newcastle fans, who were promised so much by the club’s activity in the transfer window only to end up emptyhanded.

However, the one silver lining was that Newcastle kept hold of their star players despite interest from the so-called ‘Big Six’.

Isak had been linked with a move to Chelsea in the summer, while Arsenal also had the 25-year-old on his radar. Thankfully, Newcastle and Eddie Howe put their foot down and insisted he was not for sale.

Newcastle were eager to open contract talks with Isak amid fears that Premier League clubs will reignite their interest in him in 2025. Isak is contracted to Newcastle until 2028, but the Magpies want to offer him fresh terms to end speculation over his future.

Alexander Isak contract latest at Newcastle

Despite Newcastle wanting to extend his stay, it has been reported that Isak is not in talks over a new contract.

Newcastle have pushed contract talks with Isak until the summer, and have challenged him to prove that he deserves to be the club’s top earner.

He made a slow start to the season, but Alexander Isak has now scored in three consecutive games after his spectacular header against Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.

Eddie Howe hinted that PSR will impact Isak’s contract talks, which suggests why Newcastle may have delayed the contract talks until the summer.

Hopefully, Newcastle’s struggles with the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules do not force the club to sell Isak next year.

Will Newcastle United sell Alexander Isak in 2025?

It has been suggested that Isak wants European football to stay at Newcastle – that must be the goal this season.

The Athletic‘s Chris Waugh has now given his insight after being asked whether Newcastle will sell Isak if an “insane” offer arrives.

Thankfully, Waugh wrote: “I cannot envisage a scenario in which Newcastle — and especially Howe — agree to sanction a mid-season exit for Isak.”

However, Waugh did not rule out a sale for Isak next summer if a “substantial” offer arrives.

“Next summer, Newcastle may have a decision to make on Isak if they receive a substantial offer — it would need to be north of £100m for the club to give it any consideration — but he would still have three years left on his deal.”
