Newcastle United have wrapped up contract negotiations with Anthony Gordon and now attention has turned to Alexander Isak.
There were not many positives to take from Newcastle United’s summer transfer window, but one silver lining was that the club kept hold of their star players.
Liverpool showed an interest in Anthony Gordon, Arsenal eyed up a move for Alexander Isak and Manchester City targeted Bruno Guimaraes but decided against triggering his release clause.
All three stars stayed put on Tyneside which was a major victory for Newcastle’s long-term plans.
After the transfer window slammed shut, Newcastle moved quickly to agree a new six-year contract with Gordon to end all speculation around his future.
With the 23-year-old now tied down at St James’ Park, Paul Mitchell and Newcastle chiefs have turned their attention to Alexander Isak.

Newcastle plot Alexander Isak contract talks
Isak still has just shy of four years remaining on his current £120,000 per week Newcastle contract, but after being linked with a move away this summer the hierarchy have been forced into action.
According to GiveMeSport, plans are being put in place behind the scenes at Newcastle to tempt Isak into a bumper deal.
The report adds that Newcastle are now prioritising a new deal for Isak amid fears that the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea could reignite their interest in 2025.
Club officials will open a fresh round of contract talks with Isak and his camp to try and agree on terms, with manager Eddie Howe “desperate” to see his star striker extend his stay.
Alexander Isak is more important than any signing
There was a lot of justified criticism towards Newcastle and the recruitment team for failing to land top targets such as Marc Guehi this summer.
But ultimately, keeping hold of Isak and Co. is better than any signing could ever be.

A new contract is rightly the club’s new priority. Despite his slow start to the season, the Swedish forward is easily one of the best strikers in the Premier League and he showed it last campaign with 25 goals in all competitions.
Gordon put on his best performance of the season against Manchester City after concluding his contract talks, hopefully a new deal can have a similar impact with Isak once he returns from his toe injury.
