Newcastle United had to come from behind to beat Bromley and book their spot in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
The Magpies won 3-1 against the League Two outfit, but Bromley gave Newcastle United fans a scare when they took the lead at St James’ Park just eight minutes in.
Thankfully, Lewis Miley marked his return with a thunderbolt of a goal to draw level, and Anthony Gordon fired Newcastle in front from the penalty spot early in the second half. William Osula scored his first goal for the club to seal an eighth victory in a row.
Bromley boss Andy Woodman hailed Newcastle as a “class club”. The father of former Toon shot-stopper Freddie Woodman was a class act himself in what was a brilliant cup tie for both sides.
The League Two side made a good impression at St James’ Park, as did defender Omar Sowunmi. Although it seems he was blown away by the strength of Joelinton.

Joelinton compared to ‘Thanos’ by Bromley star
Sowunmi started on the right of Bromley’s back three, meaning he often came toe-to-toe with Joelinton who was playing on the left of Newcastle’s midfield.
Joelinton was solid against Bromley but was replaced at half-time by Bruno Guimaraes for a well-deserved rest.
Bromley’s 29-year-old centre-back, who made his breakthrough at now-Premier League side Ipswich Town, posted a video of his matchday experience to Tik Tok where he produced a brilliant nickname for Joelinton.
In the video, Sowumni says jokingly: “Here’s a little 50/50 with Thanos – I mean Joelinton.”
He adds: “But listen, to finish the game 3-1, the boys walked out of there with their heads held high. I’ll say it again, Bromley fans unbelievable support, thank you so much.”
There is no doubt that Joelinton is Newcastle’s strongest player. His physical power has been a vital part of Howe striking a good balance in midfield.
Sowumni also seemed to enjoy his duels against Anthony Gordon. During one race against the Newcastle star, he says: “One v one with 45 million quid, come on then!”
What next for Newcastle including new FA Cup opponents?
After coming from behind to beat Bromley, Newcastle booked their spot in the fourth round where they will once again play lower-league opposition.
This time around, Newcastle will face Birmingham City in the FA Cup. The Blues currently sit top of League One with only two defeats this season. The tie is set to be played on February 8th.
Newcastle have kept themselves in the running for silverware this season with the Magpies currently boasting a two-goal advantage over Arsenal after the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.
