Joelinton says Newcastle now have three players who are equally as strong as him

Joelinton is arguably Newcastle United’s strongest player, but he does not believe he is alone at the top.

The 27-year-old is a powerhouse in black and white, and has gone on to become one of Eddie Howe’s most important players at Newcastle.

That has largely been down to his transition from striker to midfielder, which has led to Joelinton becoming a fan favourite at St James’ Park. While he is far from clinical in front of goal, he can be an unstoppable force in the middle of the park.

His strength and energy makes him perfect for Howe’s midfield, as the Newcastle manager asks for so much from his players from a physical perspective.

Joelinton gives everything, but he has admitted that there are some players at the club who are just as strong as he is.

Joelinton names Newcastle’s three strongest players alongside him

Joelinton has spoke to the Premier League’s official YouTube channel about his strength. He was asked if any of his Newcastle teammates are equally as strong.

“Jamaal Lascelles is strong and big,” he said.

“Dan Burn is strong. He works really hard, trains every day.

“Sven Botman [too]. So it’s a big squad.”

The 27-year-old was later asked if he thinks he is stronger than fellow Brazilian and close friend Bruno Guimaraes.

“Of course I am stronger than him,” he said, much to his amusement.

Newcastle are a really physical side

Joelinton appeared to take great pleasure in admitting that he is stronger than Bruno. There is no disputing that!

But it is interesting to hear Joelinton name three Newcastle players who are just as strong and physical as he is. The ones he has picked are no surprise – the only other player who could be in the conversation is Callum Wilson.

The three players who Joelinton names are all defenders, two of which Eddie Howe brought to the club. Their strength has contributed to Newcastle having a really mean backline.

As for Lascelles, everyone turns to him when they are asked who the strongest player at the club is. His strength on the pitch is clear for all to see, and it has helped him enjoy a rich vein of form after returning to the starting XI in recent months.

Howe’s Newcastle team are not just a bunch of bruisers, however. They are capable of playing brilliant football, as so many sides have experienced this season.

But they can and will bully you too, with Joelinton often leading the charge.
