Newcastle caused an upset on Saturday as they dominated Arsenal at St James’ Park.
It was a statement performance from Eddie Howe’s side, who looked back to their energetic best as they beat the Gunners 1-0.
Alexander Isak continued his scoring streak with his third goal in three games. The 25-year-old latched on to Anthony Gordon’s David Beckham-esque cross to head home what proved to be the winning goal.
There were brilliant performances across the field for Newcastle, with Sean Longstaff hailed as “magnificent”, while Lewis Hall was branded one of England’s best players.
There is a real feeling on Tyneside that Newcastle are starting to return to form, and Alan Shearer has picked out two players who impressed him most.

Alexander Isak and Sean Longstaff included in Alan Shearer’s Team of the Week
Troy Deeney named his Premier League Team of the Week on Tuesday morning and snubbed Longstaff but included “wonderful” Gordon.
Newcastle legend Shearer has now named his best XI from the weekend, and he couldn’t find a spot for Gordon.
Shearer was “blown away” by Hall and Tino Livramento against Arsenal, hailing their displays as “absolutely outstanding”, but neither of Newcastle’s young full-backs made his Team of the Week.
Instead, it was Alexander Isak and Sean Longstaff who made the cut.
Via the Premier League website, Shearer said about Longstaff: “He left everything out on the pitch, running his heart out and dominating the midfield battle against Arsenal.”
When explaining his decision to include Isak, Shearer added: “His goal was a thing of beauty. He is finding his best form after returning from injury.”
Newcastle and Alexander Isak are hitting top form
Isak made a fairly slow start to the season, but he is now getting back up to speed after his injury and his goals have been sorely missed.
His towering header against Arsenal was his fourth of the season and Newcastle’s form as a whole is picking up in parallel with Isak.

There is no chance Isak is leaving Newcastle in January despite interest from Premier League sides, and it seems he is happy at St James’ Park.
Isak wants European qualification to extend his contract at Newcastle, and Howe is currently on track with the Magpies only three points off the top four.
