Newcastle United had their own version of David Beckham as they beat Arsenal on Saturday.

The Magpies beat Arsenal 1-0, with Alexander Isak scoring the only goal of the game to end Newcastle United’s winless run in the Premier League. Newcastle were too physical for Arsenal, as their title bid took another hit.

It was an outstanding performance from Newcastle United, who have silenced the critics in recent days. Big questions were asked about Eddie Howe and his team, while fans have been waiting for the Magpies’ star players to burst into life.

They have done that and more over the past few days. Isak now has three goals in his last three games, and he can thank a moment of magic from Anthony Gordon for his latest strike.

Anthony Gordon’s incredible cross vs Arsenal

The winning goal was beautiful. It was an excellent header from Isak, but it was all about the cross from Gordon.

The £40million man was asked to play on the right of attack again, despite the left being his preferred side. But Joelinton was utilised on that flank, meaning Gordon was forced to operate down the right.

That ended up being decisive, as Gordon being on the right wing allowed him to whip a beautiful first time cross with his stronger right foot into the area. The cross was perfect. All Isak had to do was direct the ball towards goal.

It was a real throwback goal. Newcastle played off a knockdown then worked it wide, before Isak scored a rare header.

Tino Livramento’s message to Anthony Gordon

The goal was all about the delivery. Gordon could not have put a better cross into the area. It had everything. The pace and accuracy were perfect, so much so that Tino Livramento has likened Gordon to David Beckham after the game.

Following Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Arsenal, Gordon took to his official Instagram account.

Alongside pictures from the game, he wrote: “Great team win.”

Gordon received a one-word reply from Livramento, who commented: “Becks.”

The right-back could be referring to the German beer, but it feels more likely that he is using the nickname of arguably the greatest crosser of a ball that English football has ever seen.

Gordon can be just as dangerous on the right for Newcastle

Gordon prefers to play on the left. He is able to drive at defenders and cut inside onto his stronger right foot.

However, the win over Arsenal proved that he can be just as dangerous on the right. As long as Newcastle get runners into the box, Gordon will be able to find them.

The 23-year-old was such a threat down that side with his pace, while he has the end product to match.

And with Isak finding his feet in front of goal again, this is a partnership that can flourish.

With Joelinton on the left, Newcastle have more balance. That could have been to the detriment of Gordon, but his David Beckham-esque cross proved that he can be just as lethal on the right as he is on the left.
