Thomas Tuchel’s appointment as England manager have finally put an end to speculation over Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe.

Eddie Howe had been linked to the England job as soon as Gareth Southgate stepped down in the summer.

The Newcastle United boss is widely regarded as one of, if not the best, English coaches in football and he was immediately made a top target by the FA.

It had been reported that Howe was privately open to becoming England boss but hiring him would have cost £5m in compensation.

Instead, former Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel has become England manager which has ended all speculation over Eddie Howe‘s future.

Eddie Howe staying affects Newcastle transfer plans

The whispers around Howe’s future have been an unwanted distraction at St James’ Park but he has still led Newcastle to seventh in the Premier League table.

The Magpies can now kick on knowing that Howe is set to stay on Tyneside and continue his long-term project at Newcastle.

It is also set to affect the club’s transfer plans, with GiveMeSport reporting that Howe staying at Newcastle increases the likelihood of Marc Guehi signing.

Paul Mitchell failed to sign Guehi from Crystal Palace over the summer after his price tag rose above £70m, but Newcastle could return for Guehi in January.

The report suggests that Guehi is more likely to complete a move to Newcastle in 2025 knowing that Howe – a big admirer of the defender – is staying put.

Newcastle United can now push to sign ‘incredible’ Marc Guehi

Newcastle came frustratingly close to signing Guehi over the summer but talks collapsed in the final days of the window.

However, a centre-back remains a top priority at Newcastle, especially as chiefs are “undecided” about Fabian Schar and Dan Burn as they enter the final year of their contracts.

With Howe’s future now sorted, Newcastle can now set their full attention to the next two transfer windows, where they are expected to spend big after the disappointment of the summer.

A marquee signing would lift spirits at St James’ Park and Guehi, who was hailed as “incredible” by his Palace teammates, fits the bill.

Palace are open to selling Guehi and his value has dropped from the £70m price tag in the summer.
