Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe could soon be the subject of interest from the FA and England.
The Three Lions could potentially be on the lookout for a new manager very soon, after England lost the Euro 2024 final to Spain.
Gareth Southgate could not get the job done, and that ultimately leaves his future as manager up in the air.
His contract expires in December, and it was reported last week that the FA would like Southgate to continue as manager.
Gareth Southgate’s future could impact Eddie Howe and Newcastle United
That was irrespective of the result, and it now remains to be seen what Southgate’s decision will be.
Given England’s defeat, it feels likely that Southgate will leave. That is the fear on Tyneside, as Newcastle United will know that Eddie Howe will be a contender to replace him.

Geordie Boot Boys were told at the start of the year that Howe was one of the FA’s top targets to replace Southgate as England manager, and it looks like that is going to be the case.
England eye Eddie Howe
According to the Times, Eddie Howe is is a ‘serious’ target for England if they have to appoint a new manager.
They add that while an approach for Howe would mean getting permission from the Newcastle United owners first, the Times have been told by their sources that there is belief that an agreement with Toon officials would be possible.
It has also been reported by the Telegraph that Howe is an option for England, while they also list Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Graham Potter and Lee Carsley as contenders.
Hopefully Howe stays at Newcastle
While Newcastle may end up giving Howe permission to speak to England if there was an approach, that is not to say he would accept any offer that comes his way.
It would be a difficult decision for the 46-year-old, as the chance to manage your country does not come around often. It would be a unique opportunity for Howe to work with a golden generation of England players, leading them into a World Cup that they should have a chance of winning.
However, club football is all Howe knows. He is a coach – someone who loves working with his players on the training ground and making them better day after day. He would not get that as England manager, which would mean giving up what he is most passionate about.
On top of that, there is still work for him to do at Newcastle United, even if he has lost two of his closest allies in Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi.
Selfishly, it would be great if Southgate continued as England manager, as that would put an end to all this speculation. However, it feels like the speculation has only just begun…
