Newcastle United striker William Osula is set to leave the club on deadline day following a substantial approach from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Alexander Isak’s imminent move to Liverpool has taken the headlines, but this other deal is undoubtedly the shock of deadline day.

William Osula is subject to a £30m transfer offer from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, who are still looking for their replacement for Hugo Ekitike this summer.

Newcastle United have already signed Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart for a club record fee, while Yoane Wissa is on Tyneside for a medical ahead of a £55m move.

There were reports that Osula could leave Newcastle on loan this deadline day, but nobody could have predicted the shocking approach from Frankfurt, who are seemingly very eager to sign a new striker.

Now, a new report has shared what Newcastle’s coaching staff have said about Osula with a potential move on the cards.

Newcastle United coaching staff give honest assessment on William Osula

Newcastle paid just £12m for Osula, who joined from Sheffield United last year. The Blades included a sell-on clause in the deal for the Dane, so they will be due a small percentage of the transfer fee.

The 22-year-old was given the opportunity to impress during pre-season while Isak made himself unavailable, but failed to find the back of the net. Following Anthony Gordon’s red card against Liverpool, Osula started in the Premier League against Leeds. However, he struggled to make an impact at Elland Road.

Despite that, Newcastle are set to bank a huge profit for Osula and have included a buyback clause in the deal.

It comes following a warm assessment on the striker by Newcastle’s coaching staff. According to The Telegraph, Newcastle coaches still feel Osula has the potential to be a top striker, but he needs to play regular first-team football.

The buyback clause gives them the chance to reinvest in Osula if he becomes a success, but he still has a long way to go.

£30m for William Osula is too good a fee to turn down for Newcastle United

With Woltemade and Wissa set to debut against Wolves in two weeks, Osula would be left falling down the pecking order if he stayed at Newcastle.

In a footballing world driven by PSR, deals like this are just far too good to turn down. Newcastle will be making around £20m profit on Osula, which is sensational for a player who has scored twice in the Premier League since signing.

His exit leaves Newcastle a little short at the striker position, with just two natural options available to Eddie Howe, but he could still look to the likes of Gordon, or even give youngsters like Sean Neave a chance to impress.

Selling Osula for that sort of price also means that Newcastle have effectively already paid for Wissa from a PSR perspective.

At that price, selling Osula is not a difficult choice.
