Newcastle United’s deal for Yoane Wissa comes in the nick of time as a Premier League side have reached an agreement for his alternative.
It has been a long three months, but the transfer window is not over yet, and there is still work to be done.
Having agreed a deal with Brentford, Yoane Wissa is now taking his Newcastle United medical ahead of a £55m move. The 28-year-old forward scored 19 Premier League goals last season and pushed hard to make the deal happen.
Brentford have included a 25% sell-on clause for Wissa, but Newcastle are only paying half of the deal on deadline day.
The deal comes on deadline day, but Newcastle will be thankful they are getting the deal over the line when they have to, due to a major transfer update from elsewhere in the Premier League.
- Who is Yoane Wissa? Newcastle United’s £55m Alexander Isak replacement

Tottenham Hotspur reach agreement for Randal Kolo Muani
Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool has been the talk of the transfer window, but there are still several other major deals ahead of the 7pm deadline.
Geordie Boot Boys understood that Newcastle wanted to sign a second striker after Nick Woltemade, and they are getting it in Wissa. However, there were other options on an admittedly short list had the deal fallen through.
Randal Kolo Muani was on Newcastle’s radar as an alternative to the Brentford forward as well as Luis Openda. However, the pair are now set for moves elsewhere.
Openda is about to link up with Lloyd Kelly at Juventus, while Fabrizio Romano has stated that Tottenham Hotspur have agreed with Kolo Muani over a deadline day move from PSG.
The deal is a straight loan move with no option or obligation to buy.
Yoane Wissa deal comes just in time for Newcastle United
Newcastle finally have their replacement for Callum Wilson in Wissa, but an expensive one at that.
However, the sale of Isak softens the blow of losing the 25-year-old, who had already made it clear that he had no future on Tyneside after claims of broken promises by those inside the club.
For Newcastle, they have got their timing spot on once again, as their alternatives have already started slipping away.
It was believed that Jorgen Strand Larsen was of interest to Newcastle, but there was very little chance of that deal happening, with Wolves very reluctant to sell the Norwegian international, who only completed a permanent move to the Premier League side this summer.
Eddie Howe can be pleased with the business he has done in the summer transfer window, finding the right replacements for those who left earlier in the window.
