What Newcastle United are expected to do after they sign Marc Guehi and Will Osula

Newcastle United are hoping to complete two senior signings very soon, as the Magpies close in on deals for Will Osula and Marc Guehi.

The former is much closer to being completed than the latter, with Will Osula undergoing his Newcastle United medical on Monday.

Official confirmation from Newcastle United must be imminent, as Eddie Howe prepares to welcome the 21-year-old to St James’ Park in a £15million deal.

It has been reported by Sky Sports’ Keith Downie that the Osula deal is done – all that is left to do is unveil him to the Toon Army and announce the move.

Newcastle also aiming to sign Marc Guehi

While the Osula deal just needs to be announced, the Marc Guehi situation is not as straightforward.

The Magpies still need to agree a fee for the 24-year-old, after Crystal Palace rejected Newcastle’s first offer for Guehi.

But another bid is set to be made, with Guehi keen to sign for Newcastle United.

All roads appear to lead towards Guehi moving to the North East for around £65million, as Toon officials prepare to break the club’s transfer record. Alexander Isak is Newcastle’s most expensive signing right now, costing £63million in 2022.

What Newcastle will do after they complete these transfers

Once Osula and Guehi arrive, Newcastle will move away from incoming transfers.

That is according to the Chronicle, who report that there will be ‘senior departures’ at St James’ Park after the Osula and Guehi deals.

They add that fringe players will be moved on, either permanently or on loan.

Newcastle have plenty of futures to resolve

Outgoings look set to become the priority at Newcastle United once Osula and Guehi arrive.

There are plenty of players who need to address their Newcastle United futures, from first-team regulars to the outcasts.

With regards to the latter, Newcastle need to find new homes for Ryan Fraser and Isaac Hayden. The former has a move lined up, with Southampton having a deal in place to sign Fraser. However, he needs to reach a settlement with Newcastle before that transfer can go through. As for Hayden, his wages will continue to be an issue, with the midfielder having two years left on his Toon deal.

Jamal Lewis also falls into the above category, despite training with the first-team all summer. Eddie Howe is clearly a fan of Lewis, but is not going to be able to give him the football he needs. He too needs a move, be it a permanent transfer or a loan exit.

Then you have got the senior stars whose Newcastle United futures are up in the air – Callum Wilson, Kieran Trippier and Miguel Almiron. You could even throw Anthony Gordon into the conversation, but the club have no plans to sell him. In fact, contract talks with Gordon are due to begin to keep him at St James’ Park.

Wilson, Trippier and Almiron are in delicate positions this summer. Out of the three of them, Wilson feels like the most likely to stay, while Trippier is the most likely to leave.

Regardless, someone may have to go to fund any further incomings at Newcastle United. That is according to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie, who has predicted that Newcastle may need to sell someone to fund a deal for a new right winger.
