Newcastle United are pushing forward in their efforts to sign Brentford striker Yoane Wissa this summer, and the feeling from the Bees chiefs about the deal has been revealed.

After Liverpool signed Hugo Ekitike, the Magpies needed to focus on signing another striker who would cost considerably less.

In steps Yoane Wissa, a Brentford striker who scored 19 Premier League goals last season, one of the highest tallies in the League. Newcastle United are seriously interested in Wissa after his brilliant 2024/25 campaign, and are hoping to get a deal done for the 28-year-old before the start of the season.

Wissa is finding the Newcastle speculation difficult and has clearly had his head turned by the interest. It was revealed that Wissa had left Brentford’s training camp amid the Newcastle speculation, with the DR Congo international looking unsettled.

Brentford want £40million for him, but Newcastle believe they can sign Wissa for just over £30million instead. With talks over a deal advancing, a new transfer report has shared how Brentford chiefs really feel about keeping their striker in London this summer.

Brentford chiefs worried about Yoane Wissa joining Newcastle United

Kevin Nolan thinks Newcastle will sign Wissa this summer. The former Toon man believes he will be a great addition and will help with squad depth ahead of a busy 2025/26 campaign.

Thankfully, there appears to be more good news for Newcastle from Brentford’s side. Their chiefs appear very worried about the future of Wissa.

According to GiveMeSport, Brentford chiefs have realised it will be difficult to stop Newcastle from attracting Wissa to St James’ Park. Those same chiefs gave assurances to head coach Keith Andrews that he would not lose both Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo this summer, but that appears to be the case.

Newcastle have already had a bid of £25million for Wissa rejected, but a second offer is due any day now. Wissa finished the season just a few goals behind Alexander Isak last season, and will likely partner him if he signs for the Magpies.

How many signings could Newcastle United make after Yoane Wissa

After the initial bid was rejected, it remains clear that Wissa is Newcastle’s top option at striker and will keep pushing for a deal to be done. If £30million is enough, then their improved bid should be towards that valuation and should be accepted by Brentford.

However, Newcastle could face an uphill battle in negotiations as Manchester United were unhappy with Brentford’s negotiating for Mbeumo. Brentford consistently upped their asking price, and at one point even begged the 25-year-old to reject Man United for a move to Newcastle or Tottenham Hotspur.

After Wissa, Newcastle are expected to conduct more transfer business to significantly improve their squad ahead of the 2025/26 Champions League campaign.

Howe is eager to sign a centre-back and would also welcome a new goalkeeper. However, it remains to be seen who will be the best option between the sticks after Newcastle’s talks for James Trafford broke down.

Fans should expect at least two more signings, but Howe will be pushing for as many new players as possible.
