Newcastle United are keen to sign Yoane Wissa during what remains of the summer transfer.
Wissa scored 19 Premier League goals last season, cementing himself as Brentford’s all-time top scorer in the English top flight.
Now, the DR Congo international is a Newcastle United transfer target. Indeed, Newcastle remain confident they can sign Wissa despite having a bid worth around £25million rejected by the west London outfit.
The player himself, however, is seemingly not enjoying the transfer saga.

Yoane Wissa finding speculation over his future difficult
According to The Daily Telegraph, the forward is finding all the speculation over his future difficult to deal with.
Wissa left Brentford’s pre-season training camp as reports linking him with a move to St James’ Park swirled, though both Tottenham and Nottingham Forest have also been touted as potential landing spots.
For their part, Brentford are understood to be holding out for around £40million. As things stand, they expect him to be part of their team when they begin their Premier League campaign at Forest on Sunday 17 August, 2025.
Yoane Wissa compared to Callum Wilson
Potentially signing Wissa has its negatives. Paying a significant sum of money for a player who will turn 29 less than three weeks into the new season is hardly ideal.
Wissa does not boast much in the way of resale value, which is hugely important in a footballing landscape dominated by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
PSR does not allow clubs to lose more than £105million over a three-year period, so signing a player you’re unlikely to eventually make money on is a risk.
Still, what is obvious is that Wissa is an instant upgrade on Callum Wilson. While Wilson was a fine player for Newcastle over the years, having Wissa as Alexander Isak’s back-up instead of the veteran is an awful lot better.
| 2024/25 Premier League statistics | Yoane Wissa | Callum Wilson |
| Goals | 19 | 0 |
| Assists | 4 | 0 |
| Shots/90 | 2.6 | 0.3 |
| Key passes/90 | 0.8 | 0.2 |
As is listed above, there is simply no comparison between the two. That’s not to disrespect Wilson by any means just, at this stage of his career, he cannot compete with a player as good as Wissa.
