Newcastle United have only signed Anthony Elanga so far this summer, but Kevin Nolan believes that another deal is on the way.
It has been a frustrating summer for Newcastle United. Key targets have continuously passed Eddie Howe by, with Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool the latest deal that the Magpies have missed on.
The disappointment will continue if James Trafford joins Manchester City, amid speculation that Newcastle United could miss out on a player they have been chasing for more than 12 months.
While that would be highly embarrassing, Newcastle’s priority right now is to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford.

Kevin Nolan makes Yoane Wissa prediction as he tips Newcastle United to strike a deal
It has been reported that Wissa is open to joining Newcastle United, and former Toon captain Kevin Nolan has admitted that he thinks the 28-year-old will end up at St James’ Park. That is despite Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest also being keen.
Speaking to TalkSPORT, Nolan thinks that Wissa is bound for Tyneside and has tipped him to be a success in black and white.
“I think he will end up at Newcastle,” he said.
“The reason why, I think they’re going to have that many games, they’re going to have to swap and change.
“With Isak’s injuries from last season, I think he [Wissa] will be a real good addition to the Newcastle United squad.”
Yoane Wissa fits the bill as Newcastle United will need to rotate
As Nolan says, Newcastle United are going to have to rotate during the 2024/25 season. They are back in the Champions League, which means there will be at least eight more matches to add to their calendar.
Not only that, but they are eight games against the best that Europe has to offer. Newcastle will be competing in high stakes games every three or four days, which means Eddie Howe will have to mix his starting XI up.
That will only be possible if he has sufficient depth, which is why Newcastle are targeting a striker. Wissa fits the bill, with the 28-year-old ideally suited to providing backup to Alexander Isak.
The Sweden international cannot play every game, while a thigh problem did hinder him at times during the 2024/25 season. Having Wissa will allow Howe to rest his talisman, which is a luxury he was rarely afforded over the past 12 months.
But Wissa will be more than just a backup. He is an excellent goalscorer too, as proven by the fact Wissa scored 19 open play goals during last season’s Premier League. That is the same amount as Isak.
Whether he rotates with Isak or plays alongside him, Wissa will be a great addition to the Newcastle United squad if the Magpies can strike a deal. A £25million offer has been rejected, while Geordie Boot Boys understand that a £30million bid is being prepared.
