Newcastle United are looking to sign Brentford star Yoane Wissa this summer.
Wissa is Newcastle United’s top transfer target as Eddie Howe desperately searches for attacking reinforcement.
Indeed, Newcastle have already lost out on moves for Liam Delap, Bryan Mbeumo, Joao Pedro and Hugo Ekitike this summer.
They have seen Callum Wilson depart too, leaving the Newcastle United squad weaker than it was last season.
Wissa scored 19 Premier League goals during the 2024/25 campaign and is now seemingly their leading transfer target.
A recent update from Keith Downie, then, is promising.

Yoane Wissa has told Brentford he wants to join Newcastle United
On Tuesday evening, the Sky Sports reporter took to social media platform X.
Downie revealed that Newcastle had seen a £25million bid rejected by Brentford. Talks, however, are ongoing and a second offer worth around £30million plus add-ons is expected.
There is reportedly a feeling that a deal will get done.
Wissa is said to have told Brentford he’s open to joining Newcastle this summer, such is his desire to play in the Champions League next season.
How much Yoane Wissa could cost Newcastle United
Transfer insider Graeme Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys that Wissa could cost Newcastle less than £40million.
“Newcastle are still pushing to sign Wissa,” he said.
“There is a limit to what Newcastle will pay given his age. There was talk of a £50million price tag, but I am told a deal could be done for less than £40million.”
| Premier League statistics | Yoane Wissa |
| Games | 137 |
| Goals | 45 |
| Assists | 13 |
Paying that kind of price feels reasonable. The DR Congo international is a proven Premier League goalscorer, with 45 goals in 137 appearances.
Also able to operate on the wing, he’d provide both cover and competition for Alexander Isak.
Still, the only slight worry is that Wissa will turn 29 years of age less than one month into the 2025/26 season. As such, he holds little resale value, which is particularly significant in an age dominated by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Clearly, it’s not a perfect deal to do but Newcastle are hardly in much of a position to stall on this. They need firepower, and Wissa brings that.
