West Ham far more likely to sign £45m player than Kieran Trippier from Newcastle this summer

West Ham United have been linked with signing Kieran Trippier, but a move to the London Stadium is unlikely for the Newcastle United defender.

The 33-year-old is in the final year of his contract at St James’ Park, and it has been reported that Kieran Tripppier will probably leave Newcastle United this summer.

A departure feels likely, but Kieran Trippier‘s destination remains unclear.

He emerged as a target for West Ham this week, with Newcastle set to hold talks with Trippier regarding his future.

The Trippier rumours did not go down well with West Ham fans, who were unenthused about the prospect of the England international joining Julen Lopetegui’s side.

Kieran Trippier ‘low down’ on West Ham’s list of targets

Fortunately for them, Trippier is not West Ham’s top target. That is according to HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey, who has spoke to Geordie Boot Boys about the Hammers’ search for a right-back.

“West Ham want a right-back,” he said.

“Kieran Trippier is on their list of targets, but low down on it.

“They have agreed personal terms with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but that deal needs Manchester United to sort out his contract at their end. I would be surprised if it wasn’t Wan-Bissaka who West Ham sign, knowing who his agents are – they are very close to West Ham.

“I’ve always thought that one will get done.”

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is more likely to join West Ham

While Trippier is an option for West Ham, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is their top target.

He looks set to leave Manchester United this summer, five years after arriving at Old Trafford for £45million.

The 26-year-old has had a mixed time at Old Trafford. When it comes to one-on-one defending, he is in a league of his own. However, he leaves a lot to be desired offensively.

But he is seven years younger than Trippier, and would therefore be a much better investment. A deal is in place for Wan-Bissaka to join West Ham, but it is dependent on him finding an agreement with Man United, where he has a contract until 2025.

Unclear who Kieran Trippier could leave Newcastle for

West Ham are unlikely to be an option for Trippier, despite their rumoured interest.

There is interest in Saudi Arabia for Trippier, which represents an interesting option for the veteran defender.

Alternatively, Howe would like to keep Trippier at Newcastle. That is understandable, given how important he has been since his arrival and how influential he is as a leader.

Howe has stated that Trippier has trained well this week, with the Euro 2024 runner-up set to feature in one of Newcastle’s friendlies this weekend. The Magpies face Girona on Friday, then Strade Brestois on Saturday as part of the Sela Weekender.
