Newcastle United look likely to sign a new striker this summer, which could lead to rumours involving a former Magpie.
Eddie Howe has struggled in the striker department this season, with Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson both suffering from multiple injury problems. There were also suggestions that Wilson could leave the club in January, with the 31-year-old available for £18million.
But the number nine remained at St James’ Park – for now. His future will be up for debate again in the summer, when Newcastle plan to look for a new forward.
Wilson could potentially leave the club at the end of the season, and someone who fans would love to see replace him is Ivan Toney. And he is someone who has been on Newcastle United’s radar.

Ivan Toney has been discussed by Newcastle United officials
According to the Athletic, Newcastle’s head of recruitment Steve Nickson has named Ivan Toney on a list of potential striker signings in the past.
Nickson is clearly a fan of the Brentford forward, who looks likely to leave the Bees this summer.
That is the view of their manager Thomas Frank, who has previously described the 27-year-old as ‘special‘.
Toney was linked with a move to St James’ Park last year, but that did not come to fruition. That is not surprising, as he would have commanded a huge fee at a time when the Magpies were struggling with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
But perhaps that could change in the summer when Newcastle look to rebuild. Given the fact that he has been linked before, it feels likely that he will be linked again.
And a move would give Toney the chance to finish what he started, having previously played for Newcastle United before being sold in 2018.
