The Newcastle United squad could look very different by the time the 2024/25 season begins, with so many players linked with moving on.
There is so much uncertainty surrounding the club at the moment, with Eddie Howe seemingly needing to sell before he buys due to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
That has led to Newcastle receiving interest in a lot of their key players over the past few days, many of which fans would not want to see leave St James’ Park.
Callum Wilson is one of those players who has been linked with a move away, with Atletico Madrid trying to land the 31-year-old on loan. There has also been interest from one of our former Champions League opponents AC Milan.
But right now it would be a risk to let Wilson go, as we only have two strikers. Selling the number nine would put Alexander Isak under a lot of pressure for the rest of the season, and he has had fitness issues of his own as of late.
However, it is clear that Isak is Newcastle’s first choice striker. He is Eddie Howe’s main man through the middle, and that has led to Wilson questioning his role at St James’ Park.

Callum Wilson is worried at Newcastle United right now
According to the Telegraph, Callum Wilson is worried about his role at Newcastle United beyond the 2023/24 season. They state that the striker could seek a move away from the club.
It is understandable why Wilson is concerned. He does not want to be second choice, but it is now harder than ever to argue that he should be starting ahead of Isak. The Swede is a superstar, boasting 14 goals this season.
Wilson has got eight in 20 appearances, which is a decent tally. However, he has struggled to dovetail with Isak like he did last season, with both players suffering injures.
It is clear that Newcastle are going to struggle to rely on Wilson to stay fit, while the 31-year-old will know that he is not going to be the main man heading into the future.
That is why a summer exit might be best for both parties. He wants to play regularly and be recognised as the main striker, while it would give Newcastle a chance to cash in on a player in his 30s.
No matter what happens, Wilson should be held in high regard by Toon fans. He has been immense since his £20million arrival from Bournemouth in 2020, and has been a ‘massive‘ player for Eddie Howe.
But all good things have to come to an end, and that could be the case for Wilson and Newcastle in 2024.
