There’s an old cliché about Newcastle United and strikers.
The Newcastle No.9 shirt is often talked about as one of the most iconic in English football, worn by the likes of Jackie Milburn and Alan Shearer across its celebrated history.
Currently, Eddie Howe has two prolific marksmen up front, one of whom currently occupies that famous number.

Indeed, Callum Wilson has been a regular source of goals since his arrival from Bournemouth but, at some point, he will need to be replaced.
Over the age of 30 and with a worrisome injury record as it is, he cannot go on forever.
Indeed, it seems those making the decision at St James’ Park are acutely aware of that.
Newcastle consider move for Ivan Toney
According to iNews, Newcastle are interested in a move for Brentford’s Ivan Toney.
The striker might have failed to make the grade during his brief stint as a Toon player earlier in his career but has since starred in the Premier League, winning an England cap in the process.
The report suggests that decision-makers on Tyneside have included the £80m-rated forward on their list of targets for future windows.

Surely Victor Osimhen would be a better use of funds
Toney has been a guarantee of goals in the Premier League since Brentford’s promotion but that kind of money would surely be better spent on a younger player.
Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, for example, has recently been linked with a move to Newcastle and is three years younger than Toney.
Having fired the Italian club to a famous title victory, he’s also proven himself at the highest level and has a lot more of his career ahead of him.
If Newcastle are going to start spending that kind of money, the age profiles of the two should be taken into account.
