A Premier League manager has now made a bold claim about one player that Newcastle United have previously shown an interest in.

After spending eight months banned from playing football, Ivan Toney has returned to Brentford with a bang and conversations about his future are more rife than ever.

Speaking to Danish magazine Tipsbladet, Brentford manager Thomas Frank has claimed that Toney will ‘most likely’ leave the Bees in the summer with a host of clubs interested.

Manager says £100m player Newcastle want will be up for sale

It’s been suggested that clubs would be willing to pay £100m for the 27-year-old who scored in his first two games back from suspension against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham.

Both Chelsea and Arsenal appear to be the main clubs who are targeting the striker, but Newcastle have previously been keen on bringing their former player back to the club.

A fee of £100m does feel like it’s out of the realm of possibility for Newcastle who didn’t have a penny to spend in the January window, those are the kind of prices you have to pay for guaranteed Premier League goals these days.

With just one year left on his contract, it looks inevitable that Toney will be leaving the club which has given him a platform to succeed, and Frank looks to have resigned himself to the fact he’ll be losing such a key player.

On Toney, Frank said: “It’s quite obvious that Ivan Toney will most likely be sold in the summer.”

“It can be expensive to sell your best player, but on the other hand, I also know that by summer, he’ll only have a year left on his contract with us.
We also know what he’s worth. I don’t think there are many strikers in the world who are better than him right now.

Newcastle still in the running for Toney this summer

Although it seems unlikely to happen from the outside given that they already have Alexander Isak, Newcastle will be expecting to be a little bit short on the attacking front with Callum Wilson expected to leave before next season.

Should they qualify for a European competition once again for next season, then they will have no choice but to add to their strike force in the summer with Isak’s fitness rather unreliable.

It would certainly be a lot of money to spend on someone who may not be 100% guaranteed to start every week, but it would be a massive statement of intent for Newcastle who are so keen to get back into the Champions League as soon as possible.
