With Miguel Almiron headed for the exit, Newcastle United could look to complete another major sale before the January window slams shut.
Newcastle United fans were braced for a quiet January and with six days remaining in the window it seems a strong likelihood that Eddie Howe will go without any new major signings again.
The transfer team at St James’ Park have been more focused on raising cash through sales with Miguel Almiron sold to MLS for £10m.
Newcastle came close to selling Martin Dubravka but a late U-turn from the club means the veteran goalkeeper is now expected to stay put for the second half of the season.
There have also been bids submitted for Lloyd Kelly, but so far Newcastle have rejected all offers with Eddie Howe insisting he is not up for sale. One player Newcastle may consider selling, however, is Sean Longstaff.

Everton among Premier League clubs interested in Sean Longstaff
Howe has struck a brilliant balance in Newcastle’s midfield since Sandro Tonali dropped into a deeper role, but it has left question marks around Longstaff’s future after he dropped down the pecking order.
Newcastle decided to extend Longstaff’s contract ahead of the January window, but the club are still open to letting him go if the right offer arrives.
Longstaff is open to leaving this month too, and there are several Premier League clubs who are considering a move for the 27-year-old.
According to The Athletic, there is an outside chance that Longstaff leaves this month to help calm PSR concerns.
Multiple Premier League clubs have contacted Newcastle about Longstaff, including Everton, who share a long-term interest in the Tyneside-born midfielder.
Why selling Sean Longstaff makes sense for Newcastle United
From a PSR perspective, selling Longstaff this month would provide a huge financial boost because he is an academy product. Because he cost the club nothing, his sale would provide pure profit.
Longstaff has also played just five minutes of Premier League football in the last six matches. Bruno Guimaraes, Tonali and Joelinton are the first-choice midfielders and Lewis Miley has jumped ahead of Longstaff in the pecking order since his return from injury.

Howe believes central midfield is Newcastle’s strongest position, and Longstaff is no longer needed. The money raised through his sale could be used elsewhere – likely in the summer.
Newcastle have been linked to several midfielders this month, including Manchester City’s James McAtee. Signing a young, exciting option in the summer would add to the already impressive midfield depth.
