‘Perfect’ player could be set to make last appearance for his club, after links with Newcastle

A big summer could line in wait for Newcastle United fans.

While the January transfer window proved frustrating amid FFP issues behind the scenes, that seemingly won’t be the case forever for Newcastle.

Indeed, reports from iNews earlier this year suggested supporters could expect a substantial rebuild this summer.

After this season, it feels incredibly needed.

One of the names linked with a move up to St James’ Park is Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. Last month, it was even claimed Newcastle were the favourites to land the England international, who has been hailed as the “perfect” signing for the club by former Toon defender, Danny Simpson.

Now, Ramsdale could be gearing up for his final appearance at Arsenal.

According to the Evening Standard, Ramsdale is expected to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer.

The 25-year-old has been limited to only ten appearances this season despite excelling last year following the arrival of David Raya.

Raya, however, is not eligible to play for the Gunners against Brentford on Saturday in the Premier League due to the terms of his loan arrangement, meaning Ramsdale could be set for his final appearance.

With Arsenal going for the title and looking to make a mark in the Champions League, it would seem unlikely Mikel Arteta would opt to rotate the two again, particularly with his side out of the domestic cup competitions.

Aaron Ramsdale to Newcastle: Focus on other areas

Loris Karius has been linked with a move away of late and Ramsdale would surely be an upgrade on him in Newcastle’s squad.

Still, with Nick Pope so valued by Eddie Howe and reportedly on his way back from injury soon, it seems unlikely the Arsenal stopper would walk into Newcastle’s starting eleven. Martin Dubravka – despite some initial doubts – is starting to impress again too, meaning competition for places looks fierce.

Ramsdale is surely after guaranteed first-team football at this stage of his career, making a move to Newcastle seem somewhat counter-intuitive.

For the club too, it is surely better to focus spending money on positions that require significant upgrades imminently.
