Luke Edwards has claimed that Newcastle United could soon received a huge injury boots as one of their key players is believed to be close to a return.

Newcastle’s season has been plagued with injuries so far but they could be about to turn a corner with several players expected back in training in the next couple of weeks.

Journalist Luke Edwards has now claimed that Nick Pope is ‘not far away’ from making a return after injuring his shoulder in the 1-0 win over Man United at the beginning of December.

Pope’s return could be difference maker for Newcastle

Newcastle still have ambitions of making the Champions League this season, though that is slowly drifting away from them with the gap between them and top four now 12 points.

It’s not an impossible task but at the rate they are conceding goals it doesn’t feel very likely unless their form takes a dramatic turn in the next few weeks and they can turn some of these draw into wins.

Martin Dubravka’s shot-stopping performances haven’t been absolutely terrible, but his overall game leaves a lot to be desired and they’ve really missed the dominant presence of Pope.

Newcastle’s defensive record with the £10m signing is actually very impressive and his return from injury could be the exact boos they need to not only sort out their defensive woes but to give them hopes of a European finish.

Newcastle’s injury worries are taking a turn

there have been several occasions this season where Newcastle have been forced to play without a recognised striker or have been unable to make any key changes due to a lack of options on the bench.

Not only have the injuries and lack of players directly impacted results but the toll its take on the players who were fit was also absolutely key and during December we saw how drained most of the team was.

Now, with just one game a week and the likes of Pope, Elliot Anderson, Joe Willock and now Alexander Isak expected to return to the team very soon things are finally looking up for Eddie Howe.

The 46-year-old will be hoping they can stay injury free for the remainder of the season and with just 13 games left in the Premier League season make one big push for the top four.
