Newcastle United could reportedly make a change in between the sticks ahead of next season.

The Magpies have used two different goalkeepers in the Premier League this season, with Martin Dubravka coming in for the injured Nick Pope.

The 35-year-old has made some excellent saves during his time in the side, but his struggles have summed up just how important Pope is to Newcastle United.

Eddie Howe was gutted to lose him back in December, and fortunately he is now nearing a return to fitness after shoulder surgery.

It will be great to get Pope back, as he has been a major miss. However, there is a chance that he could potentially be replaced at St James’ Park this summer.

Newcastle the frontrunners to sign Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal

Aaron Ramsdale looks likely to leave Arsenal at the end of the season, having played second fiddle to David Raya at the Emirates.

He was tentatively linked with a move to Newcastle in January, and now those rumours are back ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to Sportslens, Newcastle are currently seen as the most likely club to sign Ramsdale from Arsenal during the summer transfer window.

They state that the 25-year-old will likely also receive interest from Chelsea, who need to address their goalkeeper situation before the 2024/25 Premier League season starts.

However, Newcastle are considered as the frontrunners at this stage, at a time when Ramsdale is desperate for a fresh start.

Not sure Ramsdale is right for Newcastle

He could get that on Tyneside, where he would be able to work with Eddie Howe again after playing under him at Bournemouth. That relationship will increase the speculation, while former Toon defender Danny Simpson believes that Ramsdale and Newcastle are ‘perfect‘ for each other.

I am not sure I would agree with that sentiment. In fact, I am not sure if I would be happy about Newcastle signing Ramsdale at all.

There is no reason to replace Pope at this stage, and he has actually became more valuable during his injury layoff. He is a key player for the Magpies, and will hopefully continue to be that next season at St James’ Park.
