Newcastle United are getting closer to announcing their second signing of the summer.

It was announced back in October 2024 that Vakhtang Salia will join Newcastle United in August 2025 when he turns 18, and he will not be the only teenager to arrive on Tyneside.

Newcastle are set to sign Antonio Cordero on a free transfer, with the Spaniard due to sign a five-year deal at St James’ Park.

The Magpies have fended off interest from the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid to secure the 18-year-old’s signature, and there is hope that he can blossom into a superstar.

The Cordero to Newcastle transfer is expected to be announced soon, and the deal has now taken another step towards completion.

Malaga confirm Antonio Cordero decision

On Saturday, Cordero played in Malaga’s final game of the season.

Now it has officially been announced that it will be his final ever Malaga appearance.

The Spanish second tier side have released a statement on their official website, confirming that Cordero is going to leave the club.

They wrote: “Antoñito Cordero will end his time at Málaga Club de Fútbol when his contract expires on June 30, 2025. Through his representation agency, the player from Jerez de la Frontera has announced his decision not to renew with our club. Good luck, Antonio.”

What Newcastle United plan to do with Antonio Cordero

Once his transfer to Tyneside becomes official, Newcastle United plan to loan Cordero out.

It has been reported that Cordero could join Ajax. The Magpies recently have a history of sending young players to the Netherlands, with Yankuba Minteh and Garang Kuol recently having loan spells in the Eredivisie.

But before Cordero is loaned out, Eddie Howe will get a chance to take a closer look at the attacker.

That is according to the Northern Echo, who report that Cordero is expected to train with the rest of the Newcastle United squad once pre-season training begins later in the summer.

It will be an immediate opportunity for Cordero to show the Newcastle United coaching staff what he is capable of, as he aims to eventually become a Premier League player for the Magpies.
